Fall intFun!
Fall colors abound along the sunrise coast and this is one of the best times to load up that kayak, strap the bike to the back of the car, or make some room for a bushel of fresh apples or squash in your backseat. Here are a few ideas for enjoying our sunrise coast this Fall.

Heritage Water Trails LogoTip of The Thumb Heritage Water Trail: The water trail is best utilized via sea kayaks. It consists of camp sites and rest areas spaced out along the shore, starting in Lexington and continuing around the tip of the thumb. The access point at Walker Road, just south of Port Sanilac, is a gorgeous site to begin your paddle, or just enjoy from the shore.
For more information about the Heritage Water Trails, click here.

fall roadA Great Bike Ride: More and more bicyclists have been taking advantage of our beautiful scenery along both the coast and the backroads. Take a ride down to
Blue Water Winery and Vineyards, stop by the road side parks to have lunch, or just meander along the country roads lined with fall colors. On the way back to your car, pedal through downtown Port Sanilac, pull off for a little shopping, and then head on down to the Marina and Lighthouse on Lake Street.

squash
Agricultural Road Trip:
Map out your grocery list locally! Our farmers are still harvesting their bounty! Bingle's Berry Farm is overflowing with squash, honey is being bottled at the apiary, and farm fresh eggs are always in season! Check out The Food & Farm Trail Map here.
Events Planning Meeting at the Bark Shanty

An events planning meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Bark Shanty Community Center, located at 135 Church St., Port Sanilac, MI.

We will be scheduling the 2012 events and organizing the responsibilities in order for the events to be successful with minimal load on any one person or group. We are always looking for community input and participation to help our village be best it can be! We welcome our summer residents, our visitors, our neighbors, friends, and business owners to attend!

As you know the majority of events and activities in the village are performed by volunteers.  If you can help or just interested in finding out about all of the events Port Sanilac has to offer please come to this meeting.  If you can not attend but would like to provide input or comments, feel free to mail or drop off a note at the Village Office c/o Ron Cole. You can also email Ron Cole, our Village Coordinator, at  rcole.portsanilac@gmail.com.

Please inform your friends, neighbors, and relatives and ask them to come. For our summer only visitors you need to see Port Sanilac in the fall. The waves and storms on Lake Huron are unbelievable!

We have received the support of the local restaurants and will be handing out certificates for discounts at the restaurants for individuals that attend the meeting. A great meal isn't hard to find here in Port Sanilac!

We look forward to seeing you!

Local Hauntings
headstone of Minnie Quay
Here, for Halloween, I share with you two stories of local ghosts. One is a very famous story about the ghost of Minnie Quay. The other, is a story you can test yourself, as the location lays just down the road at the Sanilac County Historical Museum and Village!

Take a trip to Forester Campgrounds, approach the lake, and if you are a girl, you may be beckoned into the icy waters by the ghost of Minnie Quay. On May 29, 1876, Minnie, a teenager at the time, walked off the Forester pier to her death after receiving the news that her lover, a sailor, had drowned at sea. She is said to beckon young girls into the water. At least one drowning has been blamed on her ghost. Turn the lights down low and

Old Loop Harrison MansionDid you know that our very own historical Loop-Harrison mansion is haunted? Ghost hunters and paranormal investigators have studied the mansion to find the spirits. "It must be Ada." is known to be said in reaction to odd encounters and happenings. But there are other spirits within the walls, not just family. For many years, there have been myriad rumors swirling around about whether or not the Loop-Harrison mansion is haunted.  Staff, volunteers, and visitors have had many fascinating experiences in the house; the sorts of little encounters that make you scratch your head and wonder.  There have been unexplained aromas, voices, apparitions, furniture and object movement, footsteps, clock chimes, and music. Before you visit, and inquire within, check out what the museum has to tell you about the hauntings in your own backyard, so to speak...Read more here.

We are always looking to improve our town and our services, your input is welome. Please forward any comments or questions to info@portsanilac.net. We look forward to seeing you around town!
