All the Good News about Port Sanilac!

Greetings!

Even though the smell of autumn can be found in the air and the kids are back in the educational throws of a new grade, there is still more to do in town that just watching the first of the leaves fall!

Looking back upon our busiest season, we welcomed the National Kite Flyers Association into town to fill our skies with the bright and the colorful, we witnessed our Farmers' Market bloom to new heights, and reconnected with old friends over antique boats and tractors, not to mention a few civil war re-enactments.

Both the Village and the DDA brought on new coordinators, Ron Cole and myself, respectively, and together with the residents of Port Sanilac, we are looking towards the future and all the exciting possibilities that lay ahead!

Sit back and relax as we look back on a great summer and forward to the changing seasons and upcoming activities over the next few newsletters. And thanks again to both those who found time to visit our town and shores this summer and those we see around town who make our community what it is!

Most sincerely,
Jennifer Powell

Seasonal Bounty Abounds!

It's been a bountiful season at the Port Sanilac Farmers' Market this year for our local farmers and artisans. September is 'Buy Local' month, so keep your farmers in mind when rushing out to buy those last minute veggies for dinner!

September also welcomes in the best of Michigan's fruit! The peaches are juicy, the apples are just starting, and the berries still grace our dessert plates. Be sure to check in on the Bingle's Berry Farm table and Speaker Orchards' tent to stock up and healthfully satisfy that sweet tooth of yours!

This growing season was off to a slow start this spring, which has prompted us to extend our Saturday market two weeks. The Saturday market, which runs from 3-7pm will be around until the 17th of September. Our Friday market will remain our community gathering spot until October 14th.

Some of our producers take leave of the market after Labor Day and we miss them terribly. If you find that your favorite 'Pie Lady' or 'Woodworker' is missing, fear not, we will glady point you in the right direction of finding them in their off season. The beauty of knowing your local producers is that, most often, they can be found right around the corner!
