Greetings!
It's SUMMERTIME!  The beauty of the season has arrived in Port Sanilac.  The trees are fully leafed out, the flowers are blooming, and the water is warming.

Memorial Day weekend was absolutely wonderful, filled with fabulous weather and wonderful activities.  It certainly got everyone here in the mood for the season.

Everyone in town is looking forward to our summer visitors returning.  There are many changes in the downtown to greet these visitors and we can't wait to show them off.

Here's to a fun and safe summer!  See you here!

Port Sanilac Bait and Sporting Goods Store  Opens

Fishermen you are now on notice!  Port Sanilac is once again the proud home of a Bait and Sporting Goods store!!

Located on the South side of the Blue Water building, the Port Sanilac Bait and Sporting Goods store offers a full-line of live bait and tackle, along with fishing poles and other fishing supplies.

Owners, Port Sanilac Bait and Sporting GoodsOwners by Mike Smith of Snover and Randy Brabant, Jr. of Deckerville are looking forward to sharing their love of fishing and other outdoor sports with the public.  Although their stock is currently limited to summer fishing paraphernalia, they are planning to expand into more outdoor sports including ice-fishing, archery, and guns and ammo.  They also intend to stock beach items.

In order to provide their customers with the best available bait Mike and Randy invested in a top-of-the-line minnow tank.  They are happy to show it off if you ask.  Both men are avid fishermen who frequently launch from Port Sanilac.  They will be available daily throughout the summer from sunrise to sunset for you to buy your supplies, catch up on the fishing news, and share a cup of coffee.

The Port Sanilac Bait and Sporting Goods store is open daily from sunrise to sunset beginning Saturday, June 12.  Call Mike at 810-531-1510 or Randy at 810-837-1420 for more information.

Port Sanilac DDA Launches Blueprint Project

The Port Sanilac Downtown Development Authority will be hosting a kick-off meeting for the Blueprint project on Wednesday, June 16 at 7:00 pm at the Bark Shanty Community Center.  All area residents and business owners are invited to attend.

In 2009 Port Sanilac received a grant from Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) to participate in the Blueprint program.  The Blueprint program will create a strategic plan for the continued growth and economic development of Port Sanilac's downtown.  The planning process will be overseen by Nederveld of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  This firm specializes in urban planning and development.

Nederveld consultants will also hosting the June 16th meeting.  Also featured at the meeting will be Robert Gibbs, an internationally recognized urban planner.

The Blueprint project works by collecting information from the "owners" of the project.  Anyone who is interested in seeing Port Sanilac succeed is an "owner" in this project.  We hope that you will take time from your busy schedules to join us on the 16th.

Historical Depot to Open at Museum
The Sanilac County Historical Museum will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Deckerville Depot on Saturday, June 26 on the Museum grounds.

The Deckerville Depot was moved to the Museum grounds during the summer of 2009 and has been undergoing renovation and refurbishment for the past year.  It will feature items from the historical days of train travel in the Thumb, a model train display, and other historical "train" items.  The museum also offers guided tours of the Loop Mansion and the historical Village.  Souvenirs are available at the Village General Store.

The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Depot will begin at 11:00 am with tours to follow throughout the day.  Spend the afternoon getting to know more about the rich heritage of the Thumb pioneers.

These historical buildings and educational displays have been developed and built by the dedicated volunteers of our museum and through their tireless fundraising efforts.  Take the opportunity of your visit to thank them or to volunteer some of your own time to protecting the history of our beautiful community.
