| Greetings! |
|
It's hard to believe that August is already here. The summer is flying by! July in Port Sanilac was wonderful. On the 4th of July we had a fabulous parade and the best fireworks in the Thumb. July 17, 18, and 19 we enjoyed the Bark Shanty Festival. And all month long we got new treats at the Farmers' Market. Now it's time to look ahead to August and all the fun we'll be having this month. |

There are a wide variety of events happening at the Antique Boat Show. Starting on Friday night the boaters will participate in an open water poker run. For those not participating in the poker run there is the Farmers' Market Pig Roast Fundraiser just North of firehall on M-25. The poker run and farmers' market will be followed by a welcome reception and the Taste of Port Sanilac dinner and refreshment tent. Live entertainment will be provided by the Country Sundusters, an oldies and rhythm and blues band from the Blue Water Area. The public is welcome to join the boaters at the dinner and for evening entertainment.
Saturday morning will start with breakfast in the park followed by the boat show in the harbor. Antique boats, from dinghies to yachts, will be on display in the harbor. Along with the boats, visitors can see antique tractors brought by the Black River Antique Tractor Club. Also on hand will be a variety of custom-made model boats provided by the Lake Huron Maritime Model Boat Society. Saturday afternoon there is an old-fashioned chicken bar-b-q and corn roast in the park. Saturday evening will close out with Music at the Harbor, featuring Floyd King and the Bushwhackers, and refreshments in the beer tent.
A breakfast in the park will be available on Sunday morning for the boaters. The boats will continue to be on display throughout the day on Sunday.
The Antique Boat Show also coincides with the Antique Yard Sale Trail. The Yard Sale Trail runs from New Baltimore up and around the Thumb to Sebewaing. There are bargains around every curve!
So come out to Port Sanilac on August 14, 15, and 16 for your fill of fine antiques and fantastic food! |

| Port Sanilac's New Storefront "Delivers" |
Take a walk in downtown Port Sanilac and you'll notice a lot of activity and changes. One of changes you may notice is The Birds and Bees Nursery, a new doll shop located in the lower section of the Blue Water Inn building. Inside this store you will find a collection of amazing baby dolls, so life-like you'll wonder if they are truly just sleeping babies. The Birds and Bees Nursery is the child of Sanilac County native, Julie Molloy. At the store she both makes and sells her beautiful dolls. Julie began making dolls at the age of 16, but had long dreamed of creating "real babies". Julie continued making dolls as a hobby until 2001 when she began working for a large doll manufacturer as a designer and artist. It was at this job that Julie was able to first realize her dream of making life-like dolls. After a few years of practicing her skills with the larger company, Julie decided to strike out on her own. She found a supplier that could take her models and form them in vinyl. Thus was born Julie Molloy Dolls. Julie's beautiful work was soon recognized by the doll collecting community - her dolls flew off the shelves. Shortly, Julie was no longer able to meet demand working out of her home. She needed a workshop. This spring Julie was able to lease a retail and manufacturing space for her work. Now known as The Birds and Bees Nursery, Julie's dolls have a home of their own. "It took years of hard work and trying, but I never gave up on my dream of making 'real dolls'," said Julie. "Thanks to that hard work and patience I have achieved that dream!" Julie is a master craftsman and artist. In her "birthing room" or workshop she starts with a simple lump of clay. From that clay, Julie designs and sculpts heads, arms and hands, and feet and legs for a doll. After the clay is fired, Julie can then send the pieces to her supplier to have vinyl parts made or form her own molds for silicone heads and bodies. When the pieces are taken from the molds Julie carefully finishes each one by hand. The heads are uniquely painted, fitted with eyes, and given hair. Some even get pacifiers! Once painted the dolls are pieced together with a weighted, "bean bag" body and dressed. The resulting dolls look and feel like real babies. Because of the hand-made nature of these dolls each one is unique and highly collectible. Doll lovers from all over the world order Julie's dolls over the internet at www.juliemolloydolls.com. Visit Julie and her babies at The Birds and Bees Nursery, located at 7305 Main St. in Port Sanilac. The Nursery is open Fridays from 1 to 6 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. Julie is also available during the week by appointment. Call Julie at 810-622-9800 to make an appointment or order a doll. |

Port Sanilac Receives Blueprint for Michigan's Downtowns Award |
Chester Kolascz, Chairman of the Port Sanilac Downtown Development Authority (DDA), announced today that Port Sanilac has been chosen by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) to receive a Blueprints for Michigan's Downtowns Award (Blueprint Program). The Blueprint Program provides a comprehensive, market-driven strategy that will result in economic growth, job creation, and private investments in the downtown. "It is our desire that the Blueprint Program will help Port Sanilac to define goals for our future growth and provide a roadmap with which we can achieve those goals," stated Kolascz. MSHDA director, Keith Molin noted, "Programs like Blueprints for Michigan's Downtowns go a long way in helping revitalize traditional downtowns, making them more desirable places to live, work, and invest. Economic vitality of our vibrant communities is the cornerstone of continuing economic success for the entire state." The success of the Blueprint Program will rely on the interest and participation of the residents of Port Sanilac. A variety of programs will be used to collect feed-back about the needs and desires of Port Sanilac's residents. That data will then be used to develop a long term plan for Port Sanilac's downtown. This plan will in-turn be used to assist the DDA, Village Council, and other groups in obtaining grants for the projects needed in Port Sanilac. Anyone wishing to assist with the development and implementation of the Blueprint Program is encouraged to contact Erin McDaid-Kelly, DDA Coordinator, at 810-622-0668 or info@portsanilac.net.
