EB-5 Extension
Omnibus Appropriations Bill
 
On March 10, 2009 the senate approved the omnibus appropriations bill allowing for a six month extension of the EB-5 Regional Center Pilot Program without any amendments. Lobbyists hope to secure a permanent extension to the unopposed 19 year old Pilot program which is estimated to inject a potential $5 to $10 billion into the U.S. economy each year.

 
 
Processing Times 
I-526 and I-829 petitions
Acording to the USCIS, I-526 petitions received as of November 2008 are currently being processed now (an estimated 6 months lead time) I-829 petitions received as of September 2008 are currently being processed now (an estimated 8 months lead time) There are currently an estimated 554 I-526 petitions pending and 512 I-829 petitions pending.
 
Newly devoted USCIS resources have continued to improve processing times. In the coming months processing times are expected to continue the improvement trend.

UWM RecievesFinancing 
School of Freshwater Science to Bring Global Water Research Hub to Milwaukee
 
Governor, Jim Doyle announced his plan to extend almost a quarter billion dollars in state-backed financing to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Monday, March 16th.  UWM will use the financing to expand its role as a research campus, adding a School of Freshwater Science. The School of Freshwater Science is the only academic research vessel of its kind on the Great Lakes

  "Gov. Doyle's bold move to commit funding from the State of Wisconsin to further the development of UW-Milwaukee's new School of Freshwater Sciences is a major catalyst in ensuring that we progress from being a water hub to a global economic accelerator in water," stated Julia Taylor, president of the Greater Milwaukee Committee and treasurer of the Milwaukee 7 Water Council Board.
