Pelican Institute to Host Mayoral Forum on December 16
Inspector General and Mayoral Candidates Will Discuss Future of the OIG and City Hall
New Orleans, LA -
Dec. 7, 2009
The Pelican Institute will host a mayoral forum on
December 16 featuring Inspector General Edouard
Quatrevaux and seven mayoral candidates: Rob Couhig,
John Georges, Troy Henry, Leslie Jacobs, Ed Murray,
James Perry and Nadine Ramsey.
The discussion will focus on a timely and important issue:
The role of the IG and its relationship with City Hall.
While the new Office of Inspector General was greeted
with widespread approval in 2007, there has been
upheaval over the course of the year and the office
has been targeted by critics. The Nagin
Administration's terse and pointed response to an IG
report on the budgeting process has raised questions
about how the mayor and IG should cooperate.
Inspector General Quatrevaux and the candidates will
address these issues on Dec. 16 at a luncheon at the
Plimsoll Club at the World Trade Center.
"With a new Inspector General in place and a mayoral
election approaching, the timing is ideal for this event,"
said Pelican Institute president Kevin Kane. "This is a
unique opportunity to learn more about the IG's mission
and the candidates' perspectives on the IG's role."
