Run Women Run Endorses 2010 Candidates
San Diego, CA -- Run Women Run today announced its first-ever endorsements of candidates running in statewide California races. Run Women Run is proud to endorse: - Francine Busby, candidate for U.S. Congress, 50th District, who was president of the Cardiff School Board, and ran for Congress in 2004 and 2006
- Crystal Crawford, candidate for 74th Assembly District, who served on the Del Mar City Council for 10 years and just completed her third term as Mayor
- Jill Galvez, candidate for Chula Vista City Council, who is a businesswoman, community volunteer, wife and mother
- Mona Alvarado-Rios, candidate for National City Council, who is a lifelong resident of National City and who works at the city's library
- Mary Salas, candidate for State Senate District 40, who has served as State Assembly member for the 79th District since 2006, a district that encompasses Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach, Coronado, and portions of San Diego.
"Today, Run Women Run is proud to make its first ever political endorsements," said Michelle Burton, president of Run Women Run. "These five women are exemplary public servants whom we believe will make critical differences in key public offices."
Run Women Run was founded in 2008 to correct the under-representation of women in state and local government. The organization is a multigenerational, multicultural and multi-issue, nonpartisan membership organization that provides campaign training, technical assistance and hands-on volunteer help. Run Women Run endorses candidates in local, state and federal races who are supported by a majority vote of the members of its Advisory Board. Run Women Run is non-partisan in its endorsements.
"We focus on identifying, inspiring, mentoring and financially supporting progressive, pro-choice women candidates," explained Elaine Hanson, chair of Run Women Run's Candidate Research and Endorsement Committee.
Since its inception, Run Women Run's membership has grown to more than 200 of the most prominent and forward-thinking women from San Diego's business, professional, and political communities. |
