Greetings!

Barbara Bry HeadshotAs we conclude a busy summer, Run Women Run has 190 members--a great accomplishment for our first 10 months of existence. Our two recent events attracted a number of enthusiastic new members.

On July 29, California Assembly Speaker Karen Bass spoke to us about her experiences in running for office, being elected Speaker, how women govern differently, and working through the state budget crisis. Thank you to Sarah Boot and Cooley Godward for hosting our lunch with Karen Bass. If you missed it, you can see the photos on our website (http://www.runwomenrun.org), and you can read about it here:

You never know what you'll miss by not attending. At our July 29 event, Assembly member Lori Saldaņa surprised us by announcing her decision to run for District 4 for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. You can read about it here.

Over 100 women and a few brave men attended our August 4 "Under 40 at Heart" reception. Thanks to hosts Nadia Bermudez, Amy Denhart, Laura Fink, Margret Hernandez, Sarah Kruer-Jager, Jenntte Lawrence, Caridad Sanchez and Kristin Walizer for organizing such a high-energy event, and to Monarch Group for sponsoring the appetizers.

A recent New York Times article about resentment toward women clearly demonstrates why we need Run Women Run.

On October 17, Lawyers' Club and Run Women Run are sponsoring a political boot camp. As soon as the brochure is ready, we will send it out. And in 2010, we'll be busy putting on candidate forums so you have an opportunity to meet many of the San Diego women running for office.

Please let me know if you are interested in serving on one of the committees that "run" Run Women Run--marketing, membership, or programs.

Thank you again for your help and support as we move into an important election year.

All the best,
bry sig
