Prayer Update, April 8 2011

A prayer for our work

'
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters'

 1 John 3:16

Dear friends,

A prayer for St George's Clinic

St George's Clinic, which lies on the same compound as St George's Church, Baghdad, provides free treatment for 100 patients from the local community every day.

Many people here suffer from poor health due to harsh local conditions.  Much institutional health care in Baghdad is of a low standard, blighted by corruption, inefficiency and sectarian division.  At St George's, we seek to model best practice in health care delivery.

We employ 19 staff, care for 8,000 households and see 2,000 patients every month, all without charge.  Patients can see the doctor, a dentist, have lab tests and collect prescription medicine, all at one place on the same day.

We're proud of our clinic, which provides a vital service to those in greatest need. Now, we've reached a point where we may have the opportunity to expand in the near future.

The expansion would allow us to treat even more people from the local community, who desperately need our help. But it would, of course, involve far greater costs.

Please pray for discernment on our part in our decision over whether to expand.

Pray that we'll know God's plan for our ministry, listen for Him in the decision-making process, show good judgement, and follow His good Will.

On a separate but related request, please pray for the decisions we must make in getting medicine to the clinic for the people who need it. At present, International Health Partners kindly donate the drugs we need for our work at the clinic.

There are difficulties in importing drugs due to corruption at the border control. Please pray as we look to make a decision over whether to import the donated medicines to Iraq, or buy them in country with the additional costs that will incur.

Thank you so much for your continued prayers.

If you have a prayer for our work which you'd like to share,  I'd love to hear from you.

Every blessing
