Dear Friends,
|
It's been a terrible day for the Christian church in Baghdad. At least 10 have been killed, including two priests after over 100 were taken hostage. The attacks took place on Chaldean and Syrian Catholic churches. Many have been kidnapped or left wounded, with seven Iraqi soldiers and police offers also dead.
We do not yet know the precise number killed. Intelligence had informed us this may happen, but prior warning is no remedy for loss and heartache. The security around St. George's has of course been increased. I am currently in the UK at the moment as we have our board meeting later this week, but then I will return to be with my church people.

As far as we know none of our congregation have been caught in the violence but some of their families are now sharing the terrible news of what has happened with their loved ones. One of our young people has just informed me that she saw a little girl running out of the church crying and shouting, "they have killed my daddy, they have killed my daddy". I am afraid that much of the news being released is totally inaccurate but this is not the fault of the journalists. At times like this they cannot get accurate news. For those who see or read this news I am afraid it is never gospel truth. There have been many good things that have happened this week but now is not the time to talk about them. Please pray for all our Iraqi family and pray that those who are bereaved will be comforted in their suffering.
Blessings,
Andrew
