Dear Friends,
|
Weekend and Iraqi Young People Greetings and Blessings from England. What a remarkable past few days with
the Iraqi young people. We've enjoyed such fun together with such great hospitality shown to the young people in the midst of our packed schedule. A highlight for all of us were the services on
Sunday at Cornerstone Church in Esher and at the Pioneer Church in
Leatherhead. Such friendly people and wonderful times of worship. Today we are visiting
historic Portsmouth before I go and speak at the Mothers Union there. They are
our link branch so our own Mother's Union have made a stunning new banner for
them. We will add some pictures in the next update. Tomorrow J John, his family
and Chris Demetriou are joining us for lunch.
Update on Caroline - please pray
I very rarely mention my family in these updates but today I wish to. For four
years my dear Caroline has been experiencing increasing pain in her legs. So
much so that she could not sleep at night and was finding it difficult to walk.
She had been to so many doctors and clinics and all that they tried had failed.
A few weeks ago
she had MRI scans in both legs. It was discovered that she had unusual tumours
on her tibial nerves. She was referred by the doctor to the neurologist and
neuro-surgeon but their specialty was the brain, not peripheral nerves. I therefore
took the responsibility of finding the right peripheral nerve surgeon.
He is in a private hospital in London. Caroline saw him and he specialises in
just the kind of tumour she has. To cut a very long story short she is going in
hospital tomorrow and will have surgery on both legs.
So I am writing to request your
prayers for her. Please will you pray that the procedure is 100% successful and her recovery is
rapid. When she comes out of hospital she will go and stay with her parents
until the young people return. We will of course give you an update on the
success of the operation.
Iraq: challenges and troop withdrawal
As I finish typing this update news is coming in of another big bombing in
Baghdad. Even though they are not usually reported in the western press
we do get bombs every day. As one of our young people told me, "In
Baghdad, we have breakfast, lunch, dinner and bombs."
But this attack on young army recruits just goes to show how difficult life
still is in Iraq, with no proper government in place and with the draw down of
US troops this month. The need for our programme of cross-sectarian
dialogue is greater than ever. We continue to ask for your prayers for
funding, for security and for G-d's peace.
With every Blessing,
Andrew Canon Andrew White, Hampshire, England
