Dear Friends,
|
Church and Change With it being
the weekend we have had church, church and more church - at both St. George's
and at the US Embassy. I always think church cannot get any better, but it
does. What a wonderful time it has been at both congregations.
At the US Embassy we were joined by the new command chaplain and the new IZ (International
Zone) chaplain who for the first time since 2003 is an Anglican / Episcopalian.
They are both wonderful people and I know we are going to get along very well. We
all had dinner together afterwards, as we often do.
The Iraqi services were also great this weekend. Our lectionary reading from
the Hebrew scripture was about Elijah; how he listened to G-d and preparing to
hand over to Elisha. This was so good as we prepare for the ordination of Faiz.
I am not leaving him, but he will have a new role and ministry.
Conference Kick-off In between all the services we carried out final preparations for our anti-corruption
conference, which is taking place today. A huge amount of work has gone into
this. After the conference I will send you a report. It has already been
decided with the leaders that we are establishing an Anti Corruption Forum,
which will continue putting into practice our recommendations.
Added to all this activity there were serious bombs in Baghdad again on Sunday
with many more people being killed.
With every Blessing,
Canon Andrew White, Baghdad
