From the President: Board Election

To all Access Tucson members and friends:

Bob KovitzThere are two important activities that will be taking place very shortly, and both of these activities deserve your attention.

First, you will have the opportunity to cast your votes for members to fill vacancies on the Board of Directors.  Ballots were mailed to all active members on March 25th. If you don't receive a ballot by April 1st, please let us know so we can get one out to you.

When you receive your ballot, I urge you to study the candidates and their qualifications carefully.  Check out their campaign videos on our website

We will all best be served by Board members who embrace not only Access Tucson's basic mission but who are also fully committed to active involvement in fund-raising and revenue development.

Second, I want to remind you of Access Tucson's Annual Meeting which will be held on Thursday, April 14 at 6 p.m. upstairs in Studio A.  This will be a great opportunity to hear information about Access Tucson's current and future status.

Our future is bright IF we embrace the direction that your Board has already endorsed:  Growing Access Tucson into a coalition of media organizations that will serve the whole community.  This coalition will allow us to exchange ideas, resources, creative programming and content production, potential financial support and all of the synergies that are possible through strategic partnerships.

Our challenge is to become truly independent and relevant as we move into the next stages of our development.  I look forward to seeing you at the Annual Meeting and introducing your newly-elected Board members.

Sincerely,

Bob Kovitz, President

Access Tucson Board of Directors

Annual Meeting

Access Tucson Studio A

Thursday, April 14th at 6pm

In addition to the announcement of your newly-elected Board members, we will be discussing:

  • A history of public access television in Tucson
  • Revenue-producing plans and activities
  • Rebranding Access Tucson so mission is clearer to the public
  • Strategies for creating a community media center
  • Current and projected financial situation
  • Sharing the facility with Tucson 12
  • Redesign of website
  • Current and proposed production and training capabilities

And, of course, we will be listening to you-the members. If you want to get the discussion started now or can't attend the annual meeting, email your questions to Lisa Horner, Executive Director at lisa@accesstucson.org

Studio A Training Workshop

Studio A grid

March 31st from 6:30 to 9:30 pm

Any interested certified volunteers are welcome to attend a free refresher training session organized by Carl Fiske and facilitated by the old gang: Kevin, Jeff, and Rob.

Carl will stage an interview with entertainment interludes and record it. The idea is for crew members to have a low-pressure opportunity to experiment with production techniques. You'll get to try out zany things that you may not have time to play with during a live show. You'll also be able to review tried-and-true interview production techniques and really tighten up your skills to make a polished show.

Please RSVP to Carl Fiske at existkind@aim.com or call 225-0027. We look forward to seeing you there!
