Today at City Council
After many, many months of studies, proposals and negotiations, we're happy to report that Access Tucson is moving forward with plans to co-locate with Tucson 12 and to incorporate TUSD and other educational organizations into a media consortium.
Executive Director Lisa Horner has worked tirelessly along with the Access Tucson staff to put this marriage together. It was unanimously approved by the Tucson City Council today and we'll be working on the more formal arrangements and space needs over the coming months.
Does this mean a significant change of direction for Access Tucson? No-it means that for the first time, we'll be true partners in a Public-Educational-Government (PEG) approach to community media. In fact, there is still an enormous amount of work to be done to bring all of the interested parties together. This is not about mere survival of Access Tucson-it is about creating a media incubator that may well serve as a model across the country.
We want to add your voice to the planning process so, please take a few minutes to complete our survey (see below).
Finally, the Board is taking steps to increase the revenue to Access Tucson through fund-raising and modest fees. We hope you agree that it is absolutely essential that we move toward financial sustainability that is not dependent on government funding.
If you are called upon to volunteer your time and expertise, please step forward to help us as we move into a new and exciting era.
Thank you for your continued support and please take a moment to thank Mayor and Council for their foreward thinking and thoughtful effort in the encouragement and support of this PEG approach to community media.

If needed, you can go to City Scan to find out which City Council member represents you. Click here to email all of the Council once (may not work with all email programs). If you use Outlook as your email program, you may have to change the commas into semi-colons. Also, a blank webpage may open. If it does, just close it and your email window will be there. You can call the Mayor and Council comment line at 791-4700 which gives callers a menu to reach the individual offices of City elected Officials. Please stay on the line and designate the office you wish to leave a message with by entering the Ward number (i.e., 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6). Please note that you will need to make seven phone calls to leave a message for each council member and the mayor.

Take Our Survey
We have prepared a comprehensive survey to learn what you and other community partners want to see from Access Tucson in the years to come.
To be cost efficient, we have mailed all active members and organizations without an email address in our database a printed copy of the survey with a return envelope.
For those who receive this eNewsletter, we ask that you access the survey by clicking through our website so all your responses will remain anonymous.
The deadline for completing the survey is Wednesday, November 3, 2010.

Access Tucson Re-opens on Fridays and Saturdays Starting October 22nd at 2pm
Now the really, really big news...Access Tucson re-opens this Friday. Current resources and services reflect our 60% budget cut earlier this year. This means that a lot has changed and may continue to change as necessary.
We have been busy calling producers to let them know, rescheduling live shows, and firing up the equipment. If you haven't received a call, you soon will.
Facility hours will be 2pm to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
We will be open for equipment checkouts, facilitator appointments, self-serve editing, studio tapings and studio live shows.
