One of the biggest fears many people have is public speaking. Not too far behind is writing something that total strangers will read.

Do either one of these and you are exposing yourself to being judged

and perhaps ridiculed. This is where the fear comes in.

But, in business, honing your skill in either or both can be  a tremendous asset, help increase your productivity, and most importantly, allow you to differentiate yourself from your peers and competitors.

According to the National Association of Realtors, last year 89% of buyers surfed the web, 45% attended an open house, and 36% looked at a print ad. The message here? Buyers are on the Web. You need to be where your buyers are!

Listing a property on the various websites that buyers visit is common practice. What is not common is a realtor or investor providing "content" that buyers care about. Not hype about how good you are, but information that communicates to a buyer "This person knows his/her market. I think I want to meet this person."

Writing a blog about your specific market, and everything associated with that market, sets you apart. Your willingness to openly share information gives buyers an opportunity to get to know you before they ever meet you. You are relationship building. You are looking to the long term, because a blog will not bring you business overnight.

I decided to write about this subject after reading an article in the Los Angeles Times. To read a blog referenced in this article, please go to TheMalibuRealEstateBlog.com. Michael Gardner specializes in Malibu, California properties. To read the LA Times article, Google

"Popular Articles and Stories for June 16, 2011 - Los Angeles Times.

Scroll down to the "Business" section, and click on "More Real Estate Agents Turning to Social Media" by Lauren Beale. It does not matter where you live, just apply the principles outlined here.

On a personal note, I have done Note transactions, received referrals, and been invited as a speaker because of this Newsletter.

Good luck!

Sincerely,

Denny Stanz
