March 2010
 Greetings!

Addictive eating behavior is very common in the patient who undergoes bariatric surgery.  Cross addiction is a risk after patients move away from food.  The next support concept is addictive eating behavior.  Feel free to come to the meeting this Wednesday evening (see below).

Sincerely,  Joseph A. Kuhn, MD

Food Addiction Solutions

Addictive eating is common.  It can involve eating junk food and snacks or over-eating to the point of feeling stuffed.  Eating food is comforting.  When stress rises in your life, the temptation to use food will increase.  The following website offers good information and links as well as support for food addiction.  The following suggestions have been made on this site:

journaling (writing down thoughts and plans)

a new hobby that brings relaxation and peace

soothing music or prayer

hypnosis to associate revolting images with problem foods

Buddy System
do you want to help?

Would you be willing to offer words of encouragement to new patients who are scheduled to have surgery?  This could be done over the internet or phone.

If so, send an email to our new patient coordinator
