exercise
 Greetings!

Exercise is important.  How do we exercise so that we burn fat and not carbohydrates?  What keeps you from keeping it regular?  Come to the next support group meeting to learn and share.

FEBRUARY SUPPORT MEETINGS:
Feb 3, 2009  6:30 Med City
Feb 12, 2009  6:30  Baylor
Feb 17, 2009  6:30  Bay FW

Let's Talk.  Let's find a way to support each other

buddy system

At the last meeting, we talked about starting a buddy system.  If you are a veteran, think how helpful it would be to volunteer your time or your experience to offer help and advice to patients who are recovering from surgery or who are over 1 year out and need someone to give one on one help via email or phone.   If you are interested in becoming a buddy, please email Dr. Kennedy at ckennedy@wlsdocs.com    She will organize this important aspect of support that will provide comfort and reassurance.

Advocacy:  You can help

The Collin County Commissioners voted to stop providing medical coverage for weight loss surgery.  Please see the email that we sent to the Chairman, Matt Shaheen and to the Dallas Morning News reporter that covered the story,  Ed Housewright.  The email is on our website under the Blog section.  Their decision is a major backward step for North Dallas and an awareness of morbid obesity as the number one health problem.  You can send a note to either person commenting on the impact of weight loss surgery for you.  See the below website for tips about what to say.

Before and After

Weight loss surgery can be transforming physically and emotionally.  If you have done well, we would love to include your before and after photos on either the website or other media.  Sometimes the differences can be seen in the smiles.  If interested, please email Dr. Kuhn at jkuhn@wlsdocs.com .

The  Omentum Separation Study is now Open.
DFW Map
We have started enrolling patients into a protocol involving separation of the omentum from the stomach at the same time that a band is placed.
The theory is related to the knowledge of the omentum as a source for various inflammatory substances and appetite substances.  The Separation is simple and is combined with a laparoscopic Band.  We have performed this technique in approximately 40 patients with good early results.  One recent study suggests that this technique might be beneficial:  International Journal of Obesityl

If you are interested in this technique, you can discuss it with one of the doctors.
