SpiritWear Day Friday, December 11th

Friday, December 11th will be a SpiritWear Day to benefit Feed My Starving Children. If you want to be out of uniform, bring at least $1 to put in our collection. Jeans or sweatpants that are in good condition may be worn along with any shirt that sports the FSCS name, logo or the STAR nickname. All monies should go directly to the classroom teachers. Please refer to the Parent/Student Handbook for dress code guidelines on Starwear Days.
Christmas Concert DVDs

Back by popular demand the Home and School Association will have the Christmas concerts professionally videotaped - including exclusive behind the scenes footage.  See our rising stars as they prepare for their performances.

We provide this service so all concert goers have an unobstructed view of the performance and so parents don't have to watch the show through the view finder of their camera!

The cost of each DVD is $20 and includes all performances on December 17th and 22nd. All performances are included on each DVD.  Order forms are available online.  Order forms should be returned to school no later than December 22nd.   The DVDs will be sent home after Christmas break.

Advent Service Project 2009

This year we will be collecting coins to support Dakota Woodlands.  Dakota Woodlands is a homeless shelter serving mostly women and children from Dakota County.  It is located right across the street from Faithful Shepherd. In the spirit of Advent, we encourage parents to offer small jobs around the house for the children to earn extra money for their donations.   Coins will be collected daily during Advent.  Thank you for your support of our Advent service project!
Big Thank You!

THANK YOU to all the student and adult volunteers that gave of their time and energy to make the 6th Annual Holiday Classic Boutique a huge success.  Vendors and guests alike once again had numerous compliments about the friendly and helpful volunteers at FSCS. It's a great experience to volunteer and be a part of something that is appreciated!!! Thanks again!

Jeanette Wells, 2009 Holiday Classic Boutique Chair.

Gala Gossip

Your invitation to the Gala is in.  Look in those backpacks this FRIDAY!  To reserve your seat at this year's extravaganza please return your RSVP and Raffle Order Form as soon as possible. New this year: fscsgalaforgiving.com.

You can register for the event, print out raffle order forms, donate items, and starting after Christmas Break you'll be able to view the catalog on-line.  But that is not all.  On January 20th, we will also have an on-line auction.  More details about the on-line auction will be coming soon.

Credit Cards.  All guests will be asked to check-in with a credit card.  You can then forget about carrying cash (unless you purchase raffle tickets the night of the event).  Your bid number will allow you to pay for the valet, beverages, (wine, martinis, endless beer cup, pop & water) and of course all winning items.

Although there are new items this year, our old favorites will be available: Masters Raffle, Tuition Raffle, Heads or Tails, and the Wine Wall.  Due to Minnesota State Law, the raffle tickets must be purchased with cash or check.  So if you want to just bring your credit card to the Gala, return your Raffle Form to the office with payment.
Study Tips

Most students sincerely want to  do well in school and are concerned about getting good grades and being successful. One of the biggest helps in aiding student success is giving them suggestions on the "How" as well as the "Why". Why study is something parents reinforce many, many times with their child. Today, I will give you some of the "How's".

First, Students who have daily planners should use them to record the " What and the When". What is due and when it is due.

Secondly, Make study time a regular part of your student's schedule. Also, find a regular time and place to study. Third, study where you will be the most alert and least distracted. In bed or in front of the TV  or computer are not good study areas.

Finally, learn to say "No" to temptations to delay, postpone or cancel study / homework time and learn to say "Yes" to taking short breaks when you have long study periods.
