It has been over ten years since the Women's Health Initiative found an increased risk in breast cancer after 5 or more years of continuous therapy with the synthetic hormones conjugated equine estrogens (CEE) and medroxyprogesterone acetate. Because these hormones have been referred to under the broader terms "estrogen" and "progesterone" by the media and even healthcare professionals, women are often fearful and many doctors are hesitant to prescribe hormone therapy.
