American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month, drawing attention to heart disease - America's #1 killer. Events and activities highlight the strides being taken through research and education to raise awareness of heart disease risk factors and decrease death rates. National Wear Red Day kicks off the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women. This movement urges everyone to support the fight against heart disease among women by wearing red on Friday, February 4th. The day also recognizes the critical importance of developing tools that will increase survival rates after heart attacks and cardiac arrest. One in three American adults has one or more types of cardiovascular disease (CVD). More than half of those directly affected with heart disease are under the age of 60.

Want support to keep your heart healthy?

Health Tip: Don't give up on that New Year's resolution just yet - let eDocAmerica help

Did you know that two of the most common lifestyle changes made as New Year's resolutions are to lose weight and to become more physically fit? With the addition of eDietitian and eFitness to the services offered within myODS, we are well prepared to help those who have made a commitment to one or both of these lifestyle goals.

Need some reasons to consider losing weight? How about these:

  • Life Insurance is often less expensive.
  • You are more likely to get hired (and promoted) at a job.
  • You are less likely to develop chronic health problems such as high blood pressure or diabetes.
  • You are less likely to become depressed.
  • You will have a greater clothing selection in stores. Your self-esteem may be enhanced.
  • Within myODS you have free, secure and confidential access to a certified professional dietitian. This service is staffed by Sydney Rephan, a registered dietitian. Ms. Rephan's specialty is weight control. She finds it particularly rewarding to assist individuals with chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, in achieving their weight loss goals while at the same time seeing improvements in their general health.

Don't forget about the other services provided through myODS:

  • Want to begin a physical activity program but not sure where to start? Find guidance by asking eFitness.
  • Have you resolved to be more conscientious about the care of your teeth? Contact eDent for advice on your dental health.
  • Are you, like many others, experiencing the winter blues? Consider ePsych as a resource for your psychological concerns.
  • Have questions about your medicine or specific health conditions? Contact ePharm, staffed by registered pharmacists, or eDoc, staffed by board-certified physicians. For more than a decade these services have helped thousands of individuals with their medical concerns.

Log on to myODS to access these and other valuable health tools and services. If you've never logged in before, don't worry. Logging in and creating an account is easy. Make sure you have your ODS subscriber ID number handy (you'll find it on your insurance card), and follow the on-screen prompts. You'll be in the site in no time.
