K-8 Classroom

Spring is here! We will be celebrating in the classroom by doing some gardening, discussing nutrition and healthy eating, learning about life cycles, and investigating our wonderful planet Earth. Watch for information about our Science Fair being held on Tuesday, May 17th. All 6th-8th grade students will be required to complete a Science Fair project as part of their Science grade. April is also the STAR testing month for 2nd-8th graders. Please refer to the STAR testing schedule provided by your student's Supervisory Teacher. Please note: class will not be held during the weeks of April 4th-April 22nd.

Meet & Greet  

Invite your friends to attend an upcoming Meet

& Greet Informational Session to learn more about personalized learning, different curricula, and all that PVCS has to offer students in grades Kinder through 12th. The April Meet & Greet will be Thursday, April 14th from 5:00-6:00 at PVCS. For additional information, go to www.pacificview.org and click on the Current Events tab.

 

Cans for Critter Recycling   

Participants who collect at least $16 will raise funds that benefit endangered animals and the environment and will win prizes and tickets to Jamboree Days at the San Diego Safari Park (Wild Animal Park) or the San Diego Zoo. Participants who collect less than $16 may turn in the money for a small prize, but are not eligible to attend Jamboree Days.

Pasta for Pennies

Thank you to everyone who participated in the campaign by giving money to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; together we raised $213.86! Congratulations to Kathy Meck and 
her K-8 students for winning the Olive Garden Hospitaliano Luncheon. Ms. Meck will let you know when lunch will be scheduled.

STAR Testing for High School and 2-8

STAR testing begins Tuesday, April 12 for students in grades 2-8 and Monday, April 25 for Track 2 high school. Most grades will test for three or four days in math, and language arts, while some grades will add science and history. Students can begin preparing for this test by reviewing the CA State Content Standards or practicing appropriate test preparation materials provided by Supervisory Teachers. Parents may use these materials at home for more specific practice sessions. NOTE: Test results are published across the state and scores affect our Academic Performance Index (API) score, so it is important that all students do their best to score WELL. Begin preparing TODAY!

New School Pertussis Shot Requirement!

Starting July 2011, a new law, (AB 354), changing California immunization requirements for all students entering 7th-12th grades goes into effect. This law requires that starting this coming school year (2011-2012), all students entering into 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster shot (called "Tdap") before starting school. Get Creative with Animal Art

Field Trip to the New Children's Museum

Join us as we explore the New Children's Museum in San Diego. All grade levels will enjoy interactive art installations by various artists focusing on animals. Students will also have an opportunity to create their own original art work. We will meet across the street at the park at 10:45 am and will enter as a group. (After visiting the museum, it is optional for you to bring a lunch and enjoy eating it at the park.)

San Diego Padres Science Field Trip Day and Padres Baseball Game
This unique educational field trip will show students what science looks like outside of the classroom. Activities will include a "Fire and Ice" show presented by the Fleet Science Center, an ecovivarium show on natural science featuring snakes and creepy crawlies, a general atomics show on physics, and appearances by Padres players.

Where: Petco Park - 100 Park Blvd., San Diego, 92101
Cost: $7:00 per person (includes admission to the 12:35  pm Padres vs. Braves baseball game).

PVCS Graduation
Graduation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1, 2011 @ 5:00 at the Oceanside Amphitheater. If you are scheduled to graduate, information regarding graduation was sent to you. All cap and gowns have been ordered and will be arriving in May. Your Supervisory teacher will contact you when your order has arrived. If you have any questions regarding graduation, please contact Lena Rumps @ ext. 117.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Program is sponsored by the City of Oceanside through the Community Relations Commission and is open to any graduating senior living in the City of Oceanside. This scholarship is funded entirely by donations from the community. The deadline to submit this application is Thursday, April 14th. Pacific View Charter School Parent Advisory Committee will award a $250 scholarship to a graduating senior who demonstrates pride in his/her personal and academic accomplishments, has devoted service to the community, and who desires to enhance his/her future. Applications are due Friday, May 13.

If you have completed the FAFSA, you can establish a Webgrants for Students (WGS) account. By using WGS, students can view their Cal Grant application status, confirm and/or update their postal and email addresses, provide the required high school graduation confirmation and change their college of attendance.
