including projects
for new home construction, progressive building and
home improvements.
It also builds capacity in construction skills, disaster
mitigation and
financial literacy and works in coordination with
community and
government agencies. Costs are $1,000 for a home repair to $7,000 for a new

From the Executive Director
A Special Message
Dear Friends, I'm sure you have heard by now about
the devastating earthquake in Haiti. It is being reported that 2
million people were within 10 miles of the 7.0-magnitude earthquake's
epicenter. We have been informed by Habitat for Humanity International that
Claude Jeudy, Executive Director of Habitat in Haiti, is well;
but the Habitat office there is completely destroyed. To help with the
immediate need, our affiliate is sending our remaining $7,500 tithe to Habitat
International's disaster response effort in Haiti. If you
would like to send a gift directly to Habitat's relief effort, the address is
listed on the left. Some of you have also asked about the possibility of sending a
construction team to Haiti to help rebuild. We are being
told that there are no commercial flights allowed in or out of the country at
this time; but we are looking at opportunities to coordinate with the Lafayette affiliate to send
a team after the immediate crisis stabilizes. Please continue to pray for the
people of Haiti. Throughout this letter are some
additional sources of information so you can keep abreast of Habitat's response
to the disaster.

HFH Lafayette Executive Director, son in Haiti during earthquake
[The following is a post from Habitat Lafayette's website. The affiliate in Lafayette has an ongoing relationship with the affiliate in Haiti. They are partnering together along with Hosean Ministries on a project called LaPin Habitat for Humanity.]
[HFH Lafayette Executive Director] Doug [Taylor] is in
Haiti, and many are wondering about his safety and that of his son, Austin. Although we
have been unable to contact Doug directly by cell or satellite phone, we
received a phone call from the wife of Pastor Caleb Lucien, the director of
Hosean Ministries in Pignon,
Haiti. Doug and all are well!
Doug was
getting things ready for a work group that planned to travel to
Haiti the end of the month. This area
is the location of a 50-house build project.
Cindy,
Doug's wife, continues to be very concerned about Claude and Pastor Adam's
son. Claude is the Executive Director of the Habitat in Haiti that we work with and who visited Lafayette last fall. They
live near the area that is most devastated. Your prayer is appreciated.
Doug Taylor will travel to Port-au-Prince with his son, Austin, and they will
likely remain in Haiti for the next few weeks. Please
include Doug and Austin in your prayers as you continue to pray for the people
of Haiti.
