Dear Friends of Habitat,

In his book, All Over but the Shoutin', Rick Bragg writes, "The only thing poverty does is grind down your nerve endings to a point that you can work harder and stoop lower than most people are willing to. It chips away a person's dreams to the point that the hopelessness shows through, and the dreamer accepts that hard work and borrowed houses are all this life will ever be ... ". But this past month, you helped four families take a significant step out of poverty. Because of your support of Habitat, four new families received the keys to their new home. Instead of stooping lower, they stood taller. Instead of giving up on their dream, they saw it realized. Because of you, ten children ages six months to 18 now have a home they can call their own. Thank you.

Women Build Blitz

Women Build 09 Walls

This year's Women Build is in progress! It began with building the walls in the parking lot of the new St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on Douglas Road in Mishawaka. Congressman Joe Donnelly joined volunteers to help put together the walls for partner family Patricia Howard's new home. The home is located at 1928 S. Taylor in South Bend, right down the street from the Notre Dame Development build that was just completed. To volunteer during the build blitz week, scheduled for Sept. 14-19, contact Laura Bailey here. Then come out and celebrate with us at the house blessing on Saturday, Sept. 19!

Attendance High at August Meetings

Habitat homeownership

Thank you for helping us spread the word about the Habitat Homeownership Program! During our informational meetings in the month of August alone, we exceeded the number of attendees for both rounds of meetings in 2008! More than 100 people attended the meetings, and applications are already being turned in. Please continue to pray that the right people would turn in applications and that we will have enough qualified applicants to select from.

Look for more information about homeownership with Habitat on our website!.
