Small Business Leader's Industry Perspective

When to Five Axis Machine
As you will see in one of this month's featured Advantage articles, the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining recently hosted the Manufacturing Study Group from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF). I always enjoy their visit because it generates great dialogue between the ICAF students and a Panel of small business leaders relative to current issues facing the manufacturing industry.

This year many of the issues raised by the eighteen students were similar to those raised in each of the prior five years, such as workforce, STEM, and trade. However, the students also introduced several new topics which may be reflective of the current political climate, including energy, taxes, and technology.

Tooling Solutions for Application Specific Needs

AMAMCO Tool, an NCDMM Alliance Partner, has been providing custom carbide cutting tools since 1972. Unlike most large tool manufacturers that focus on off-the-shelf standard tools for mass marketing, AMAMCO Tool specializes in a collaborative approach with customers to produce tool solutions for application specific needs. These relationships have produced some of the most innovative tools in the market today.

Industrial College of Armed Forces Visits NCDMM

NCDMM recently hosted a visit by the National Defense University's (NDU), Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF) - Manufacturing Industry Study Group.  This year represents the fifth consecutive time that ICAF has come to the Latrobe facility.  The visit provides the Study Group participants an opportunity to discuss defense manufacturing issues with small manufacturing businesses and to learn about NCDMM methodologies directed at improving defense industrial base capabilities.
