New 4 Year Term Starts This Week

On Tuesday, January 3, the Snohomish County Council swore in two members: Councilmember Brian Sullivan (Dist 2: Muilteo, Everett), and Councilmember Stephanie Wright (yours truly), representing Lynnwood, Edmonds, Woodway, and surrounding unincorporated areas. We were each re-elected to a new four-year term in the general election this past November. In addition, I was honored to have been elected by the other councilmembers to serve as County Council Vice-Chair for the year 2012. It will be a busy year!

It is truly an honor to work alongside these councilmembers, and to see once again that you, my neighbors in Council District 3, trust me to  represent your interests and address important county issues on your behalf. Thank you for your continued support and  encouragement. I look forward to a full and productive year ahead.

Good wishes in 2012! Let's stay in touch.

County boards & commissions seek members

Snohomish County regularly utilizes advice and feedback from county residents and local subject matter experts to make decisions on policy and legislation. Residents can apply to serve on these topical boards and commissions. I encourage interested members of Council District 3 to consider participation this year. The county website lists the established boards and commissions, as well as which ones currently have openings to fill.

For example: the Evergreen State Fair Advisory Board is currently seeking to fill one position from outside our district, as well as two at-large positions which could be filled by appointees from any district. The closing date for epplications to be submitted in response to that opening is Monday, April 30, 2012.

Maybe your interests would better fit the Childrens' Commission, Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board, or the Noxious Weed Control Board? They are only three of many boards that accept applications on an open continuous basis. I highly recommend taking a look!

While some commissions accept members as representatives of their respective districts, others seek at-large participants, or representatives of a particular industry or interest area. Candidates for participation complete an application, and those selected to serve undergo a formal appointment process at the county campus.

Feel free to contact Jennifer or me, or the individual staff contact for each board, if you have questions. This is a great opportunity to learn more about county government, and a valuable way to get your voice heard on issues important to you and our neighbors. Find the complete listing of Snohomish County Boards and Commisions here.
