Executive Releases 2012 Draft County Budget

Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon presented his proposed 2012 budget last Friday. Before a room full of County staff, elected County officials, media, and interested public, Reardon offered his take on how to move Snohomish County forward next year, building on Snohomish County's fiscal solvency.

The Snohomish County budget process requires the Executive to provide his initial budget plan to the County Council (which he did last Friday), after which the Council accepts or modifies the plan, before sending it back as a counter-proposal to the Executive in the form of a County ordinance prior to Thanksgiving.

To read more about the Executive's draft of the 2012 County Budget, including numerous reports and budget resources, visit the County Executive's page on the County website.

For initial summary of the Executive's proposed budget, readers may be interested in recent coverage from The Everett Herald.

County Council Hosts Public Budget Meetings

The County budget process continues with a series of three town meetings in October. Each public budget forum will be free and open to the public, attended by some of the five County Council members and representatives from the Council's legislative analyst budget staff.

Each forum is a separate meeting, offered with duplicate structure and opportunities to provide comment. Attendance at more than one of the following meetings is not necessary in order to provide public comment -- the multiple opportunities are simply provided for the public's convenience.

Project Update - September 30, 2011

Extending transit from Northgate to Lynnwood

Sound Transit and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) are beginning the environmental analysis for the North Corridor Transit Project, part of the Sound Transit 2 Plan approved by voters in 2008.

The first step to developing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is called "scoping." Scoping provides an opportunity for the public and agencies to learn about and provide comments on the project as environmental review begins. You can comment on aspects including the proposed purpose and need of the project and potential route and corridor alternatives, including I-5 and SR 99. (Download printed mailer here.)

Join Sound Transit at a public scoping meeting
  • Tuesday, October 11, 2011: Shoreline Conference Center
    18560 1st Ave NE, Shoreline

  • Thursday, October 13, 2011: Embassy Suites Hotel
    44th Ave W, Lynnwood

  • Tuesday, October 18, 2011: Ingraham High School
    1819 N 135th St, Seattle

All meetings will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.
