The Details of the Fairways of Canton |
Up the road is the growing town of Canton, Georgia. There you will find the new golf community, Laurel Canyon, where the Fairways of Canton are located. KAOD has designed a Tudor-style clubhouse and cart barn to complement the golf course which was designed by Rocky Roquemore. The design and construction phases of this project have been successfully completed, but we're not quite finished. The remaining element of this project lies in the interior details. Interior design is not new to KAOD, but this is going beyond what is viewed as traditional interior design. We are also responsible for Interior Furnishing, Fixtures, and Equipment and creating the original art for the clubhouse. To keep the historical theme, we are focusing on the history of golf to provide inspiration for the interior of the clubhouse. So this has become a very interesting learning experience for KAOD and we will keep you updated on our blog, as well as in this newsletter, as we move through completion in this new design process.

Extension Office Taking Shape |
|
Construction is steadily progressing on the new offices and headquarters for the Coweta County Extension Service. Currently under construction are the office and workspace wing and the main lobby hub. The large Multi-Purpose Hall and Teaching Kitchen section is slated to begin construction at the completion of this first phase. This scheduling of the project's phasing was an integral part of the planning process. Because of the existence of an existing mobile office and the segmented availability of funds, not all of the work could be conducted at once.
This also serves as another project in a number of facilities constructed by the County's inmate labor force. The use of this labor source is not uncommon for municipalities that subscribe to the strategy as a measure to reduce construction costs. It is also a technique that has proven to be a successful source of technical or trade education that helps individuals have more work opportunities once they are released. In this project, KAOD has used the familiar materials and techniques of masonry, metal panel systems, wood, and glass to challenge the conventional details found in many County projects, therefore, the detailing and composition have evolved to set the stage for use in future design solutions. Additionally, while management or construction administration of these types of commissions can be both challenging and rewarding, K.A. Oldham Design, Inc. has a very successful track record in projects such as these. They have honed our management skills and exposed us to hands-on construction operations that not all firms have the opportunity to experience. |
