Meet Cira Brown
Cira is one of the most talented and fascinating people I know.
She is a Web Site Developer who works as a consultant on web sites designed here at Competitive Edge. She's the one who keeps me out of trouble and makes sure our sites are W3C compliant.
In addition to what she does for CompEdge, Cira is a full time student at Worcester State College, an aspiring Museum Exhibition Designer, majoring in History and Communications with minors in Mathematics, Philosophy, and Physics.
Not enough for you? Well, Cira also is a student curator for the Central Mass. Convention & Visitors Bureau, and an employee at WSC Print Center.

How to Frustrate a Graphic Designer When I decided to add designing web sites to my menu of services, I soon learned that web site design is totally different from print design. Being a "visually" oriented person, I soon became frustrated with how to get the elements on the page to stay where I put them, for the colors to be what I wanted them to be, and the typefaces to show up as they were intended to.
All Web Browsers Are Not Created Equal As web technology has developed over the years, different companies developed different software and methods for doing things. The tools have not been perfect. But, they have improved a lot in the last couple of years. As it turns out, all web browsers are not created equal. So what has been happening is that some web sites are viewed differently and may not function correctly in some browsers.
The Web Site Police Eventually an organization known as The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
emerged. W3C is an international community that develops standards to
ensure the long-term growth of the Web. One of W3C's tasks has been to
form browser compliance standards, so that web sites, when correctly designed, are correctly viewed in all browsers. But, getting everyone to comply has been quite a challenge up until now.
Web Designing Gymnastics We web site designers have had to basically jump through hoops of fire to get our clients' web sites to work correctly when viewed in Internet Explorer - the most popular browser on the market for many years. While our web sites are designed to W3C standards, Microsoft has been slow to bring it's browser into compliance. Most other browsers including Safari, Firefox, and Opera, among others, have been compliant right along.
No More Jumbled Web Sites! Upgrade Now!
Finally, with Internet Explorer 8, the Microsoft browser has become compliant to W3C standards! The bad news is that many Windows users have been reluctant to upgrade. So, I am providing a few links here to other browsers and ask all of you who are on Windows operating systems, to either upgrade to IE8 or try one of the other excellent browsers out there. Please see "Download Browsers" in the left column.
By the way, if your friends haven't updated their browsers lately, please forward this to them!
