Greetings!

Does your company have name recognition? Do your customers remember you when it comes time to purchase your products or services? Do they know about all the things you offer? Do you stand out among your competition?
Things You Should Know About Logos

It must be recognizable and memorable.
Your logo is the most important piece of your marketing package. Whether you spend lots of money on advertising or just a little, it is your company's image. It is the one thing you leave with your customers whether on a business card, ad, web site, vehicle, banner, billboard, brochure, sign or other marketing piece.

It must be simple, while making a strong statement.
Complex designs that are hard to decipher are meaningless to your market. The company name should be readable and recognizable as part of the logo. Adding a simple tag line describing what the company sells can make all the difference.

It is not clip art.
If there is an icon, it should in some way be related to or symbolic of what the company does. But, it should not be some cheesy clip art downloaded from the internet. It should be distinctive and unique to the company it represents.
Don't: For example, when you're driving on the highway, take note of all the contractors with Irish names who use a shamrock as part of the logo.

It must belong to you.
Copyright laws are pretty specific. You must never copy another company's logo or company name, or download and use another company's art or photos for your own profit-making endeavors. If you think you won't get caught, think again. Talk with an attorney to have your logo trademarked.

Use of it must be consistent.
The logo should look the same every time and every place that you use it. The colors and typefaces should be set and used consistently.
Do: Ask your designer to provide the PMS color numbers (Pantone Matching System), as well as the CMYK, RGB and web safe equivalents, and keep that information on file.

EPS, PDF, TIFF, GIF, JPG? Vector or Bitmap? CMYK or RGB?
With today's technology, your logo needs to be available in a variety of formats so that it is easily and correctly reproduced whether used for offset printing, silk screening, embroidery, web site, e-mail, vehicle identification, trade show graphics, or printing on your own inkjet printer. All of these applications use and view color differently. All of them accept file types specific to the technologies they represent.

If I have designed your logo, I will provide it to you in all the formats you need for any application. Additionally, I always have it on file. Whenever you need a specific size for a specific use, just contact me to size it and prepare it for that particular use. Furthermore, I can design any marketing materials you need and provide the finished, approved artwork for reproduction by reputable, professional vendors with whom I have business relationships, including sign and banner makers, print shops, promotional products vendors, and more.

Sincerely,

Maureen Horrigan
