Tom Ruble, Broker
Ashburnham, Massachusetts

Due to the collapse of the mortgage industry, it's been an especially tough year for most real estate firms. Not so for Tom Ruble. Why? While many of his competitors have "disappeared" he has actually increased his advertising and brought additional realtors into his office. By doing so, he has made himself more visible and thereby, he gets the calls. He understands that not every call turns into a sale right now, but that making the connection is important to his future.

Greetings!

This has certainly been an eventful year! Just to name a few: fluctuating fuel costs, an historic election season, the stock market crash, and really crazy early winter weather have impacted most businesses.

The important thing to remember is that with some creative marketing techniques these kinds of changes and fluctuations can often present an opportunity to grow your business.

This is a time when you want to be one of the survivors.
Survival of the Fittest . . .

Don't Disappear.
When times are tough, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to completely stop marketing and advertising. When you do that, you disappear and your competitors who are more visible become stronger. This is a good time to increase your marketing efforts to stand out from your competition.

Is Your Brand Memorable?
It's more important now that your brand is recognizable and memorable. If you already have a strong logo, make it stronger by adding a tag line that speaks to your customers.

Put Your Customers to Work!
Your current customers are your best sales people. Ask them to refer you to their family and friends. Thank them and reward them when they do.

Have a Plan.
The best way to ensure that you are reaching your customer where they are is to put together a marketing plan that you can refer to throughout the year and have budgeted for in advance.

Spend Wisely.
You get a lot of calls from people selling advertising and marketing. Don't fall prey to every  one of them. Look at your marketing plan. Is it in your budget? Is this a method that actually reaches your market?

If you don't fully understand what the caller is asking you to buy, don't know whether it is a good way to reach your customers, or have a hard time saying "No" to anything, call me. I can help you sort it out and decide whether it could be and effective marketing method. If it's something you need to say "No" to but can't, I can and will do it for you.

Happy New Year!
2009I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your business and your referrals.

Here's wishing you a very happy, healthy and successful 2009!

Sincerely,

Maureen Horrigan
