The Dub Lounge Friday April 4th 8:30 PM
$5 cover These guys have played the Pub before as the Solid Foundation with Reggae Legend Winston Jarrett. Now they return to bring their message through music: Here is a description from their myspace page: Five
Mutants from Rasta planet Reutes Ole 7 embeded in Seattle to Help the
people of earth rise up and enjoy themselves. To blend in, the mutants
pose as an investigative reporter, a billionaire, a man size praying
mantis, a professor of binomial nomenclature at UW, a decorated rastafarian athlete, and a mystical
dread-locksmith. The Transport they rode in on was supposed to hit
earth in early 70's. Fortunately their space craft was caught in a
meteor storm that delayed their arrival until some time in late 2003.
None of the crew seemed to mind that much due to the improved quality
of the herb.

Beth Whitney
Thursday, April 10th 7:30
"Beth Whitney's phenomenal debut release, Leave Your Shoes, reminds
us that we have absolutely nowhere to be but right here, right now. So
powerful is the experience of this album that each and every time I
play it, I'm transported - instantly - to the present. Her voice
texturizes even the subtlest of surroundings in and outside of the
recording. Ms. Whitney breathes life into each note. Really, it's the
most sublime invitation to stillness: lyrics, chords, and sweet, milky
vocal nuances etch themselves beautifully in a sparse acoustic
landscape." Barbie-Danielle DeCarlo, World and Pop Music Director, KBCS 91.3 FM, Seattle

politically minded documentary director/producer Peter J. Vogt turns
the camera on one of the most colorful and controversial figures to
play professional baseball - Bill "Spaceman" Lee Labeled
"The Spaceman", Bill preferred the nickname "Earthman" because it
reflected the things he cared about deeply. Bill became the
spokesperson for a generation that came of age in the 1960s and
frequented the right field bleachers at Fenway. Lee was a voice of
reason and sanity in a game corrupted by "planet-polluting owners" and
the corporate mindset. |

The Business of Being Born
Tuesday April 29th 6 pm $5 donation
There will be a Panel Discussion Following Film
Birth is a miracle, a rite of passage, a natural part of life. But birth is also big business. Compelled to explore the subject after
the delivery of her first child, actress Ricki Lake recruits filmmaker
Abby Epstein to question the way American women have babies. The film interlaces intimate birth
stories with surprising historical, political and scientific insights
and shocking statistics about the current maternity care system. When
director Epstein discovers she is pregnant during the making of the
film, the journey becomes even more personal. Should most births be viewed as a natural
life process, or should every delivery be treated as a potentially
catastrophic medical emergency?
