Greetings!
Happy New Year and welcome to the 13th year of the Handmade Tile Association! The newest directory has been printed and is in the process of being mailed. Over 4000 are being sent all across the United States to members, designers, architects, contractors, galleries, museums and all that have requested directories in the past.
Each year the directory continues to improve. One of the main reason is the work of the artists keep submitting more skilled work and better photography. When you receive your copy make sure to send out a notice on your social media you received a copy and you can get one for all of your friends free of charge.
Thank you all for your support of the Handmade Tile Association.

Directories coming your way
|
By the end of January all artists and advertisers in the 2012 directory will get a minimum of 50 to 100 directories to hand out. Deb LeAir volunteers to come in every year and helps pack up cases to be shipped to everyone. If you need more than 50 don't hesitate to contact the HTA office and Deb will make a box up just for you, all free of charge. Don't be shy we have 10,000 directories to get out and if you run out we will keep sending you more always for free. Have them available in your studios, arts festivals, galleries, openings, showrooms, your local NKBA, AIA, ASID chapters. Deliver them to clay distribution centers, art centers, tile setters, tile showrooms, gift shops, design centers basically anywhere you know people should be seeing this directory and would utilize it. When you hand out the directories you not only save shipping money for the HTA you give face value to the organization and what we are trying to accomplish. You also become the connection point in your community about handmade tile and mosaics. Those people will remember you and contact you if they have questions. The directories are a great way to start a conversation with designers and potential customers. You are giving them a free beautiful artisan book! People like that. Go forth and DISTRIBUTE!

Goals for 2012
| Each year the Handmade Tile Association sets a series of goals we try to achieve. This year we are focusing a little more on the HTA's presence at shows and events. We noticed that our booth at the MN Tile Festival did not have strong enough signage to identify us. So we intend on making a series of banners and signs that can be used and sent to other events to promote the organization while we are handing out the directory.
1. Create marketing tools such as banners, signs and literature holders for the HTA to look better and tell who we are at a glance at shows and events that can be used by members and the organization.
1. To continue to build our national presence through sponsorships and awards.
4. To promote and build the HTA artists memberships events to a national audience.
5. Work with members to create opportunities through events and gallery show to help promote the artists work nationally. 6. To get the distribution of the directory in all 50 states. (this is big one and it will take many years to achieve)
We hope all of those involved with the HTA will find 2012 to be a successful year and you will keep in contact with the HTA with updates on finished projects, tile events, and opportunities that all tile artists should know about. Happy New Year!

Home and Garden Show and the HTA?
| Roger Mayland from North Prairie Tileworks has been looking into having the HTA be present at the Minneapolis Home and Garden Show February 29 - March 4, 2012. He is exploring working with the NKBA to share some of their booth space or having the HTA have its own booth. Roger would like to know artists that would be interested in participating and staffing the show. If so contact Roger at roger@handmadetile.com This will be an agenda item at the HTA meeting on January 24th at Bon Ton Designs.

Volunteering opportunity
|
At the beginning of each year we need filing for the HTA to be accomplished. We are looking for volunteer to come in and help the HTA get our tax info in order.
Every year advertisers and members have an opportunity to help the organization by volunteering. We ask everyone to give 5 hours a year. Those who do we offer a $100 off your advertising costs in the directory.
If you would like to help please contact Josh to tell him what you would like to help with. 612-781-6409 |
HTA pays for office rent
|
For the past 13 years the Handmade Tile Association has utilized and shared office space with Clay Squared to Infinity. The HTA purchases its own paper, envelopes, stamps, file cabinets, ect. But it has never paid for computers, printers, repairs to equipment and rent for office space. As it has grown over the years there is a need for some office space to off-set the costs of operating out of the Clay Square space. One day it is plausible that the HTA will rent its own office and it needs to start preparing in its budget for this concept. The HTA board voted on the proposed motions of a rent fee of $50 per month to be paid to Clay Squared for rent and use of equipment the motion passed unanimously. |
Events, shows, new products, art, classes etc!
| We are looking for more events to post. Please send us your classes and workshops, and gallery shows.
Four times a week the HTA does a Facebook post on the Handmade Tile Association page. We are looking for , members and advertisers who have events or anything they want to publicize, they can send all the info to josh@handmadetileassociation.org
The same thing goes for artists chosen for the HTA "Artist of the Month" spotlight. If they connect with me early, I can integrate more of their work and interests in the press release.
