"Do You Have a Church Home?"
By Clancy Nixon
In the minutes before the Purcellville Service last Saturday, I was praying with a small group of those who organize that outreach. I pleaded with God to send new people to our meeting there in western Loudoun. I prayed that the people I had invited would come, and I prayed that our people would all be faithful to invite others.
I sensed God whisper to me, "If you want them to come NOW, get up, go out on the road where they are and invite them in!" I didn't exactly hear God tell me to stop praying, though it seemed like that. I did hear Him tell me to stop praying in my little ecclesial huddle, and to go out where the people are, and prayerfully invite them.
So I strolled outside in my clerical collar and stood next to our CHS sign that was placed right next to the road. As a car approached, I would wave, and bless them. Wouldn't you know, every driver waved back! (except for that corvette...)

Encounters with God

Youth Event at the Red Barn Good Friday, Apr. 2 - Worship Leader: Tony Lutyk
Victory Thru Jesus , a ministry led by friends of CHS, Charles and Kathy Strother, is sponsoring a workshop for youth and youth leaders on encounters with God and pursuing Him in everyday life on Good Friday, April 2, 2010 at the Red Barn in Delaplane, Virginia. The speaker, Jon Pasquale, is a second-year student at Global School of Supernatural Ministry in Mechanicsburg, PA. Jon traveled to Brazil with some of the CHS youth in 2007 on the Youth Power Invasion. Jon has a heart for youth and will be sharing testimonies of his trips to the nations.
Specifically intended for teens and young adults, the afternoon teaching time is scheduled for 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. We will also be showing the video "The finger of God". Victory Thru Jesus will offer dinner at 5:00 p.m. for youth and leaders participating in the workshop. The evening worship and ministry time will run from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. and is open to all. Victory Thru Jesus will take a love offering which will go to help Jon and his ministry.
The Red Barn praise and worship center is located on Charles and Kathy Strother's farm at 1562 Leeds Manor Rd, Delaplane, VA 20144. Jan Fearing is offering rides for those interested in going from 1:00 - 4:30 (call her at 703-771-9477 / email janandsyd@yahoo.com). To sign up for the workshop, contact Jan Fearing or Mrs. Strother at 703-321-9757 or email her at KatStrother@aol.com.
CHS Welcomes New Family

After four years of waiting, CHS was blessed to welcome our brother Ilyas' family who have relocated from Pakistan: wife Ruby, son Daud (who goes by "David" soon to be 9), and daughters Maryam (6) and Aen (who goes by "Anna" age 4)! Ruby and the children follow the Pakistan tradition and use Ilyas's first name as their last name (Ruby Ilyas).
Guess Who?
Test your knowledge of your friends at CHS.
Answer in the next issue of Godsend
This Guess Who? is a local, born in Georgetown and raised in Bowie, Md. His dad worked in DC for the US Department of Education and mom was a nurse. Our Guess Who? was a bit hyper as a boy and his teacher would sometimes have to tie him to his chair in school! He met his wife to be while they were still in high school and worked as a radio DJ in college. A bright boy, he earned degrees in music and physics and has a Masters in engineering from Johns Hopkins. During the hippy years, he would also answer to the nickname "Buffalo". Now he's quite respectable, successful, still married to the same young lady he met in high school, has a "full quiver" of children and still cheers for the Redskins.

Jeff Milrod and wife Joanne
Jeff is Senior Warden of the CHS vestry, plays lead quitar for our praise band (and sometimes leads), and with Joanne leads the Lovettsville/Leesburg home group.

CHS Spring Class:
Confirmation for Adults
Sundays mornings at 8:45am from April 18-June 27. Confirmation is not just for teenagers! It's for anyone who wants to reaffirm make a mature profession of the classic and orthodox faith. This class is also for those coming to CHS and the Anglican Communion from a different tradition. It's a way to formally acknowledge your wider church family and come fully under the spiritual covering of our bishop. You will learn about our Anglican heritage and our worship practices. Our Bishop John Guernsey will visit us and pray for you, for the Holy Spirit to empower you. We offer separate classes for teens and adults, so next year we'll do a teen class.
Consider This... |
"Either sin is with you, lying on your shoulders, or it is lying on Christ, the Lamb of God. Now if it is lying on your back, you are lost; but if it is resting on Christ, you are free, and you will be saved. Now choose what you want." - Martin Luther

Church Home continued
After about ten minutes of waving and greeting, a man came outside the building across the street, smoking a cigarette. He crossed the street to apologize for parking his truck in the church lot. I told him "no problem," and he said he had always wanted to see the inside of that church building. When I asked, he said he didn't have a church home - he had not been in church for several years. Roger came in with me! He didn't stay long after the service started, but he said he'd call me about doing his wedding in the fall. Pray for Roger.
Loudoun County is filled with Rogers and Sheilas and Azizs who would come to church if they were invited by someone they knew. Will you join me in inviting an unchurched person to our Easter Celebration this Sunday? Pot-Trust Breakfast is at 9:00, Worship is at 10:00, and egg hunt follows.
Today at the gas station, a man asked me directions to the post office. I told him the way; then I asked him if he was new in town; then I asked if he had a church home. He said he was catholic, and I thought, 'you don't go anywhere.' So I invited him to CHS anyway, saying we were Anglican -similar- and right in the neighborhood. And I gave him a card with directions.
This Easter, I'm speaking about how Jesus' resurrection means that we live forever, too. This message is more relevant to people in the street than you might guess. According to Ed Stetzer, noted missiologist, 20% of unchurched Americans today think every day about where they will spend eternity! And 80% of twenty-somethings would be glad for a friend to tell them what Christianity means to them.
Following Easter, we start a 12 week series on the awesome book of Acts. Pray that the Holy Spirit would fall on us as we worship and pray - and as we go out and invite people who need Jesus.+
