Rev. Canon Patrick Kyaligonza and his family

Off to Uganda!
-by Clancy Nixon

I'm off to Uganda , and I need some help - laptops, a projector, your prayers and financial gifts.  I'll explain. I leave this Tuesday, Feb. 17 for Fort Portal in western Uganda , where The Rev. Canon Patrick Kyaligonza will be consecrated the new Bishop of our Diocese of Rewenzori.  He has asked me to come represent you there. Our current diocesan bishop, Benezeri (Ben) Kisembo, is retiring. This will be a great time to reaffirm our mission ties and receive our new bishop's blessing and spiritual oversight.  We believe in spiritual authority, and I can assure you that Bishop Patrick is an orthodox, evangelical, spirit-filled believer with great gifts for ministry. I will ask Patrick to share his heart and vision for the diocese and for our partnership.

bishop benNeeds: I still need help with travel expenses. I've felt called to help provide Ben, who gets no pension from the church, with a retirement gift.  Our primary outreach in Uganda is Bishop Balya College , which is the only institution of higher learning for many miles, and serves over a million Anglicans in 3 dioceses.   CHS has been paying the full salaries of 2 of the 3 full-time, PhD professors at Bishop Balya, for only $1500 per year each.  They train priests and lay congregational leaders, chaplains in the 500 diocesan schools, and desire to train in other fields as well. They have expressed needs for laptops and a projector.  I'll need a large suitcase I can leave there. You can help by delivering to me by Sunday things to carry, or writing a check to CHS, with Uganda in the memo line, or giving by clicking here and then on e-giving at the bottom of the page, specifying Uganda.

Please pray for God's blessings and outpouring of his Holy Spirit on: Ben and his wife, Lovey; Bishop Patrick; and Bishop Balya College , Reuben Kisembo, President.  And for travel mercies for me!  I'll be back on Feb 25 in time for Ash Wednesday at 7:00PM at Calvary Baptist Church on Jenkins Lane in old Ashburn.+

Marilyn Heigl and 1st Choice Women's Health Center

"He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all He created." James 1:18

Marilyn15 years ago, Marilyn Heigl and her husband Jim were some of the founding members of the Lifeline pregnancy center now called 1st Choice Women's Health Center in Landsdowne. Marilyn joined the staff three years ago as the Advancement Director, coordinating fund raising and raising community awareness. She also leads an 11 week Bible study called "Forgiven and Set Free" for women who have had an abortion at any time in their life. This post-abortion recovery and support Bible study is held twice a year.

Sanctity of Human Life Month Celebrated at Church of the Holy Spirit
                     -by Marilyn Heigl

January 2009 - Because we at CHS believe our Lord values every precious human life, a Sunday in January is set aside to acknowledge that human life is sacred.  January 22 each year marks the anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, which allows women to take the life of their unborn child through abortion.

For thirty six years, since the Roe v. Wade decision, the March for Life has taken place in Washington, D.C. during the week closest to the anniversary.  This week is known as Sanctity of Human Life week nationwide and churches and individuals across this country acknowledge and celebrate this week in various ways.  Several from CHS attended the march this year.

On Sunday, January 18, 2009, a powerful message was preached by Tom Pokorni on the value and sacredness of every human life.  A member of our congregation, Carol Hickey, shared a personal testimony of her abortion experience, her pain and suffering afterwards, and the glorious healing journey back to spiritual wholeness.  She reflected the amazing love and forgiveness that our Lord freely gives when one turns to Him as Redeemer and Healer.

Another way CHS shows its support for the sacredness of human life is by helping to support 1st Choice Women's Health Center, the only pregnancy care center in Loudoun County.  Through their annual Baby Bottle Fundraiser, CHS raised over $600 last year for the center.  This pregnancy center, and others like it across the country are helping women to choose life by offering free life- affirming ultrasound exams, and assistance with material needs.  Their fears are transformed into confidence, and lives are being changed by the power of the Cross.
