Carlos (the Nixon's dog) stood in solidarity with the Steeler's during the 4th quarter when the Cardinals took the lead for while.  He was praying hard with his Steeler's prayer shawl over his head as Holmes received a pass in the last seconds of the game and kept his toes in the endzone to make Super Bowl History.  And yes, the teens and adults had a blast at the Super Bowl event too!
(Condolences to all Cardinal fans!)

Here I am, Lord; Send Somebody Else!
by Clancy Nixon

It had begun to overflow. Hammy didn't want to take out the trash. Not TODAY, not AGAIN.  But there it was in writing, on the family job board, unblinking, staring at him in the heart. He knew it was his job, but just now he felt a bit nauseas, so he felt justified in letting it sit there.  Why couldn't it be someone else's job?  What was the big deal?

Like Moses at the burning bush, we're all tempted to say from time to time, "Here I am, Lord... send somebody else!" (Exodus 3:4 and 4:13)  While God had some things for him to do that were hard, Moses finally accepted God's call. How about you?  How are you being called to serve God now?

One way we answer that question here at CHS is to ask what a mature disciple of Christ looks like.  There are many aspects to this question, and I'd like to explore one aspect today: servanthood.  Followers of Jesus are about serving Him.  When I orient new families to CHS, I tell them that I'd like each person to consider 3 ministries: Two for our congregation, and one for those outside. Of the two within the local body, the second is to find a ministry that fits your gifts and passion, so each one will find a fruitful and satisfying place of service, which we'll look at next week.  Today we'll look at the first role.

The first servant role is family service. Every family has things it needs done that no one may feel fits their gifts and passion.  The trash needs taking out. The clothes need washing and folding.  Each person at CHS is asked to serve our congregation by doing some task that needs doing, like setting up and tearing down, or folding bulletins, or whatever the need might be.  Taking on a humble role enables us to appreciate what others have done for us, and enables God to grow our hearts for service. It also helps us to discern what our gifts, passion and call might be for this season.

Right now, we have service opportunities available in the Sign Ministry - placing our sandwich board outdoor signs and then retrieving them timely on weekends.  We're looking for help with set-up and tear down, with Sunday school for our young ones and with operating our media shout computer program to move slides during Sunday worship. If you don't have a servant role yet, please let me or a Vestry Member know, and we'll find a place for you.+

"From [Christ] the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." Ephesians 4:16

Many people attending CHS are involved in ministries not directly tied to our church. These ministries vary from prison evangelism to pregnancy crisis centers, foreign missions to breast cancer cure walks. We'll be highlighting them over the next several weeks in Godsend.

Patrick Henry College - Where Leaders Go
by David Halbrook, Dir. of Communications, PHC

Patrick Henry College is not just another Christian college. Founded in 2000, it has been consistently named one of the top ten conservative schools in the country. The College blends a campus culture that exalts Jesus Christ with the same rigorous, classical liberal arts curriculum that shaped many of our country's Founders.

With a broad, integrated core curriculum that is centered on Christ, reinforced with real-life experience, and backed by the tradition of the great books, Patrick Henry College takes seriously its mission to equip future leaders for Christ and for liberty. Because of their classical education, Patrick Henry students are intellectually adventuresome, articulate, challenging, and oriented toward high achievement. PHC consistently fields national championship caliber debate and moot court teams and places students in top apprenticeships in Washington, D.C. and beyond. PHC graduates presently attend top graduate and law schools and stand poised to advance God's kingdom across a broad spectrum of professions and ministries.

The College receives intense scrutiny from the secular press, individuals, and groups antagonistic to its mission to impact the culture for Christ, and has been the topic of books, television documentaries, and countless articles probing the lives, faith, and motivations of its students. Amid ongoing attacks and opposition, the College leadership has fought to train disciples who esteem and exalt the Lord Jesus Christ, and to defend the sovereignty of God, the sanctity of His Word and the integrity of its mission to lead the nation and shape the culture with timeless biblical values.

The College welcomes your prayers and support. For further information, please e-mail DWhalbrook@phc.edu, or to send support, e-mail TRZiemnick@phc.edu.

guesswhojackieGuess Who?

(Test your knowledge of your friends at CHS. Answer will be given in next week's issue of GodSend)

This Michigander holds a Master's degree in Water Resources Management. He's a "big outdoors" kind of a guy who got his love of the wilderness from his father. One of their family jokes is that when he was married, his father was going to get the bride her "very own deer stand!" Once known as the "High King" of Broadlands, this joyful man can really get you laughing.
