Welcome to ReSources, The Arc of Northern Virginia's e-Newsletter.
From Our Executive Director:
Nancy is going back to school August 22, 2011-well, kind of...
Dear Members and Friends;
I am stepping down from my role as co-executive director of The Arc of Northern Virginia. I was not looking for change, but one was put in my path and after a lengthy interview process I was offered and have accepted the role of CEO/President of the PHILLIPS program. PHILLIPS provides educational opportunities and community based services to students who have not been successful in the "regular education setting." The PHILLIPS philosophy is that every student has potential and should experience success-and the PHILLIPS team have worked to create the supports and opportunities to make that happen! I am honored to follow in the footsteps of their current CEO Sally Sibley, who has built the programs PHILLIPS offers over the last forty years.
I felt comfortable interviewing and accepting the offer because The Arc of Northern Virginia is in a strong place--this organization is well respected, a leader in the community and has the best staff and set of volunteers I have ever had the opportunity to work with--- Additionally, our State and National Chapters of The Arc are thriving as they have adopted a new brand identity, tag line "Achieve With Us" and have worked closely with Dept. of Justice, the media and the country to ensure the rights of people with developmental disabilities are honored in Virginia and throughout the world...it is an exciting time to be part of The Arc movement!
I have learned so much and am excited to see who the next leader(s) will be as they too will have the opportunity to capture and focus the remarkable talents that make up The Arc.
Thank you for letting me guide you and your family and for making my role as an advocate a wonderful adventure, one that I will always hold close to my heart.
Nancy Mercer
