An important message from our State office
The Arc of VA!

"We all have been very busy here in Richmond fighting against the cuts and the proposed rebuild-it is an uphill battle w/ the additional 2 billion that is likely to be removed from the budget since the 1% income tax surcharge does not appear to have sufficient support.
Restoration of the proposed cuts is at risk and additional cuts are
possible!

WE NEED EVERYONE TO MOBILIZE SELF-ADVOCATES, FAMILIES, PROVIDERS AND CONCERNED CITIZENS TO BE HERE ON PRESIDENT'S DAY

WE NEED YOU HERE ON PRESIDENT's DAY!  When the Chapter Day sign-up went out, we let you know that we may need to hold a statewide lobby day on February 15th.  From our conversations with legislators, it is clear that unprecedented turnout for this event is critical.    I know this is tough with less than 2 week turnaround, but I cannot begin to tell you how important it will be, the subcommittees report on the budget on the 21st-so this will allow us to make a very public push before those budgets come out.  http://www.arcofva.org/docs/budget_hearing_info.pdf .  It is clear because of our waiting list crisis that not everyone on the waiting lists can attend, this would be a good opportunity to pull in volunteer groups like college students to be represent those who cannot be there themselves. Also, high school students may be off for the day due to the holiday.   I know buses can get pricey, but it is probably one of the best investments we as a network of chapters can make.  If each chapter could coordinate at least one bus to streamline  logistics and get major numbers, think of the impact combined!!!"
