| Another Black Belt Success Story
Hi All Mr Lloyd here. When I first started at Factor10 some 10 years ago Hapkido was what I came to do. There is no way you would have ever got me in a set of white pants. Over the years at the club Mr O asked me many times (I lost count on the number) why don't you do Taekwondo? I politely smiled and said no thanks it doesn't interest me.
One day I very clearly remember Mr O once again asking me (Very persistent is our Mr O) about doing Taekwondo and as normal I smiled and said no thanks.
This particular time was a bit different though because as I walked away I asked myself why I don't do Taekwondo? I had no valid reason not to, or the reason I didn't do it in the first place had changed so I started. My original reason for not doing Taekwondo was that I had an idea/picture in my head about what it looked like.
Over the years at the club I got to see that Factor10 Taekwondo looks nothing like what my original picture was. When I started it felt a bit weird and fascinating for me all at the same time. I remember asking Mr O many times why would you do it this way or that way, that's just weird. (Spoken like a true Hapkido Dan holder). Learning Teakwondo all be it a bit weird at times has very much contributed to my overall Martial Arts ability. I tell you this story because last Thursday night I successfully gained my Taekwondo First Dan. What I am proud of the most is not the first Dan on it's own but the fact that I challenged my original thinking for not doing something and hence confirming that my original reasons were no longer valid. Without this I would never had been able to even consider standing there on Thursday night to attempt a Taekwondo black belt grading. So I leave you with a this: Is there anything that you could be doing that the reason you are not has changed or no longer exists?

Sparring Safety Kits 1 April 2010
|
  |
 |
Arm, Shin and Mouth Guards
At Factor10 we are constantly reviewing systems across all areas of operations. After a recent review of safety we noticed that most minor injuries occur as a result of accidental clashes while sparring. From 1 April arm, shin and mouth guards are required when sparring. Many students have this safety equipment however it is available for purchase at reception if required.
Martial Arts Bags
For the months of March and April members receive a 10% discount on safety equipment if purchased with a Factor10 Sports Bag. Back Packs, Junior Bags and Senior Bags are available now.

 | Factor 10 Health Tips Do You Exercise?
|
|
| How Often Should I Exercise?
There is no definitive answer to this, but I believe the Martial Arts has the answer to this one.
That is, set up a rhythm of exercise that is regular - every Tuesday and Thursday, or Monday, Wednesday and Friday - but make it regular. We know our body and mind will be more likely to do something that has a rhythm to it - something that is routine. That's why Martial Artists attend regular classes. We know if we break the rhythm it's so hard to get back to it again.
I exercise daily and many people do, however pick for yourself what works and this is likely to be whatever you can fit into your lifestyle. Ultimate health practitioners recommend one hour of exercise daily.
Have fun!

 | Factor10 Thinking Skills People and Change
|
|
| What are You Guarding?
"No one can persuade another person to change. Each of us guards a gate of change that can only be opened from the inside. We cannot open the gate of another either by argument or emotional appeal." Marilyn Ferguson
As we endeavour to open our own "gate of change" we become invigorated and revitalised - we become excited and positive about the future. However if we decide to try to open the gates of others we find ourselves preoccupied with the change of others, an exercise that is energy draining, argumentative and in all a bad success story.
So how do we appeal to those who need to change something. Well, there is nothing better than leading by example. Actions speak louder than words. If you are worried that a family member is not heading down a healthy track, not eating well, putting on weight, catching way too many colds, getting puffed just playing with the kids, or whatever it is, have a look to see if you need to open your "gate of change" first. And make the personal changes to see if others follow. If they don't, well they never will until the time is right for them.
