Factor 10 Health Tips We're All Living Longer
|
|
|
I was so excited to read recently that Australians are living longer than ever. In fact Australians' life expectancy is among the highest in the world, with Australian males beaten only by 2 other nations, Iceland and Hong Kong, and Australian females beaten only by Japan and Hong Kong. This information is based on the 2006 Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Boys born today can expect to live to 78.5 years, and if they make it to 65 years of age, they can expect to live to 83.1 years of age on average. Wow!
Girls born today in Australia can expect to live to 83.3 years, and if they make it to 65 they can expect to go on to a massive 86.4 years of age. Girl Power!
So why are the women doing so well guys? There are some real reasons however I'd like to make that a topic for one of my blogs another day.
The survival rates for heart disease, stroke and cancer have improved greatly. This has been attributed to better medical treatment, disease management, and people starting to take responsibility for their own prevention through exercise and nutrition.
The statistics show that the people who are taking responsibility for reducing the risk factors through exercise, nutrition and overall lifestyle management are making a real difference to their lives.
While this news is good, diabetes and mental illnesses including dementia are on the rise. Musculoskeletal disorders including arthritis and other auto immune diseases are also on the rise. Overall aged disability rates have also increased.
BTW I read the other day that the human body has the design potential to live on average to the age of 115 years.
Well, the world record is a French person who has lived to 122 years of age and the Australian record is 114 years of age.
How are you going with your lifestyle management check so you can be one of those high flyers cruising on into the 80's ... or even beyond into your 100's?

Factor10 Thinking Skills The Character Ethic
|
|
|
There has been so much written over time about self improvement and how to become a better person. In fact there have been literally thousands of books written on this since the 60's and 70's.
There are the books on how to persuade people to give you a job, on how to sell more things if you are in business, how positive mental attitude will turn your life around, how to sell better over the internet, how to improve you relationships with your partner and children. The list goes on and on, and there are still more and more books coming out.
The traditional Martial Arts principles are what guides us at Factor10 in how we think and act. It effects our behaviour directly and is guided by very clear principles. These are listed in the club oath - personal integrity, modesty, humility, self restraint, integrity, truth, high morals, correct judgement, respect and dignity.
When we embrace these things we are living what is called the "Character Ethic". How do we know if we are achieving this? You will know when you sense people are comfortable with you, with the way you are.
Ever been to one of those "Power Personality" seminars where they tell you "How to Win friends and Influence People" by practicing just perfect smiling techniques, eye contact, proximity and personal space techniques?
Worse still, ever met someone who you think might have just been to one of these seminars? Where they have really taken it on board and are practicing it in every waking moment of their life and it kind of stands out they are actually practicing on you?
These kinds of seminars are based on the "Personality Ethic" rather than the "Character Ethic" and, while we can take some good things from this approach, it is generally short lived and shallow.
When you meet someone who lives by the "Character Ethic", you feel a real trust and a sense of belief in them from the outset. They have a positive energy that you can feel comfortable with from the beginning.
Master Lee is a great example of this. Within seconds of meeting him you feel a sense of truth, honesty, respect and real value. Master Lee needs to say nothing for you to feel this, it's just there.
