Academy Weekly Fly Around
Friday 16 January 2009
Factor10 Animated
Greetings!

Can you believe it.  Here we are starting another exciting year.

Our holidays have come and gone for most of our families and the kids are getting ready for another year at school.

A lot of our families are already back at training and have seen the new refurbishments we have completed at the Academy.  A huge thank you to Fiona's Dad Merv who painted and plastered and some other helpers, Ian Lloyd and Jenny McDonald, not to mention my own family of Fiona, Dan and Ryan.  We had an absolutely huge job going for a week when the Academy was closed and we are still just finalising the new change rooms and repainting the toilets.

Without the help of these special friends and family we would never have achieved such great results.  Thanks also for all of the positive feedback about it all.  Our plan is to make your visit to our Academy as comfortable as possible.

2009 is going to see some of the most exciting changes ever at our Academy and I just can't wait!!

Have a great week.

Swimming Lessons- Not negotiable,  Self Defence- Not Negotiable
by Fiona O'Flaherty
Damien gave a very interesting speech at the Christmas Party and Awards night.  He mentioned some statistics that really made me sit back and think through some of the issues facing the youth of today.

Did you know:

  • Qld has the 2nd highest rate of assault behind the NT
  • The rate of assaults in increasing at an average of about 6% per year
  • 15-19 yr olds have the highest rate of assaults
  • Almost 2% of males in the 15-24yr age group will experience some sort of assault
  • ABS(2006)   One in 20 women were the victim of violence in the last twelve months
As parents we need to assess these risks and start deciding whether equipping our children with Self Defence skills and extra confidence and discipline is now a "NOT NEGOTIABLE".  As Australian parents we all consider swimming lessons a "NOT NEGOTIABLE".

Martial Arts should also now be considered a life skill NOT NEGOTIABLE.

It is not the same as Soccer, Football and Hockey and other sports it is truly a unique life skill

NOT NEGOTIABLE!!

Wet n Wild Family Fun Day
by Fiona
Wet n Wild Family Fun Day February 22nd

Last year we had our first Wet n Wild Family Fun Day.  We had about 80 family and Friends meet together at the park and have some great fun.

I have organised it again for this year for Sunday 22 February.  Tickets need to be paid for at reception at the great discounted rate of $29- same price for Adults and children (normally $32 children and $45 Adults).  Booking sheets will be handed out in class starting next week.

Lets get as many people as possible together and have a great day.  Wet n Wild provide a large under cover area for us to meet as a central point and there are BBQs available.
