Greetings!

Well the Olympics have come and gone for another four years and I am sure most of us are all "Sported" out.  It is now back to the grindstone for all of the athletes who are wanting to participate in London.

It was disappointing that the Aussie Taekwondo players didn't play to their potential - we thought they would have been a medal chance.  Based on what their faces looked like it appeared it was a bit overwhelming and there were plenty of nerves.

On another note we had a huge turn out for the Parents Night Out.  Close to 40 students had a feed of Pizza and then laid back to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks.  I hope the Parents were able to do something special!

On the 13 September we will be holding an information stand at Albany Creek Shopping Centre outside Coles.  Call in and say hello if you are out and about.

This Saturday our staff will meet to discuss happenings around the club and the next few months leading up to Christmas!!

Last but not least I am very excited to announce that we are forming an additional Demo squad.  The Demo squad will be for Black Belts only and will be training on Monday nights 6.15pm-7.00pm during the Black belt lesson.  We have enlisted the help of one of our Mums who is an expert in Acrobatics and Gymnastics.  If you are interested and you are a Cho Dan Bo or Black Belt turn up on Monday nights to ensure you don't miss out.

Have a great week.

Core Values -Family and Belonging is everything
by Damien O'Flaherty
Core Values
I am so proud of the five core values our Academy stands for:

1.  Martial Arts is a Life Journey
2.  Always Persist
3.  Have Fun
4   Family & Belonging is everything
5.  Strive for Personal Excellence

Some of the proudest moments I have had have been when parents of our younger students come and tell me that they love their child being part of our Academy. They say it is like they have all of these older Brothers and Sisters!  They tell me that the older students are such fantastic role models and they are so happy that their son or daughter wants to copy and be just like that person.

This is what Martial Arts is all about - when you or your children started Martial Arts with us you were not just starting Martial Arts but you were becoming part of our Martial Arts FAMILY.

Martial Arts is different to other sports and this is what makes us unique.  We not only learn skills but we learn about persistence, confidence, discipline etc.  and we learn this not only from the one instructor in front of the class but we learn it from all of the other members of our Martial Arts Family.

Our Parents Night Out, Disco's, Club Comps and any other function we have at the Academy relies on members of our Academy "Family"- offering to help and run the events.  We all help each other just like a family does!

It is for this reason to that sometimes we have to talk to students about their behaviour or actions.  We cannot have some students making it hard for others to learn or for the Instructor to teach.  Usually we will give the students a warning about their behaviour and then if they continue they will be given some time out to reflect.  If they return to class and continue with unacceptable behaviour they may be asked to leave the class for the rest of the lesson.  We always try to avoid these situations and use many positive strategies first.

At Brisbane Taekwondo and Hapkido Academy our Family is one of exceptional people who will continue to work together and help each other become successful.

Parents Night Out

We had almost forty students attend the recent parents Night Out at the club.  We ate as much Pizza as we could and then when we couldn't fit any more in we laid down and watched a very funny movie- Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Hopefully we will post some photos soon- courtesty of George
