Academy Weekly Fly Around
Thursday 21 August 2008
Factor10 Animated
Greetings!

Welcome to another exciting week at our Academy.  You will see many new faces around and the amount of White belts increasing.  Please make them welcome.

A reminder to parents that we have volunteered to baby sit for you on Saturday 30th August so that you can have a PARENTS NIGHT OUT.  The kids will be spoilt with Pizza and Movies while you enjoy some time out.  Booking forms are being handed out in class now.

Burac Hassan plays for Australia in Taekwondo today.  I believe it is on SBS at 1.30pm today.  Keep an eye on it as he is a great player and must be a chance of winning a few matches.

Have a great week.

Core Values -Strive for Personal Excellence
by Damien O'Flaherty
Core Values
I am so proud of the five core values our Academy stands for:

1.  Martial Arts is a Life Journey
2.  Always Persist
3.  Have Fun
4   Family & Belonging is everything
5.  Strive for Personal Excellence

Personal Excellence is all about performing and striving to do your best.  Excellence doesn't always mean perfection or straight A's, it is about doing the best you are capable of.  Don't compare your child or yourself with anyone else.  We are all different and it is critical that we look only at our own performance. This is the great thing about individual sports.  There is no one else responsible!! Try to avoid letting your child or yourself get in to any competition with others about how fast they grade.  Keep them focussed just on themself and assist them to perform at their own speed.

If they are struggling maybe the grading DVD's would be a good idea for some home practice to continue to build confidence.

Always try and do your best!

Facts-- Brisbane Taekwondo & Hapkido Academy

Did you know-

1.  There are only about three other Full time Martial Arts clubs in Brisbane
2   Most Martial Arts clubs operate out of Church Halls and School Halls on a part time basis
3.  Most clubs don't have mats on the floor and students train on Timber or Concrete floors.
4.  Clubs will often have Adults training with children.
5.  Students often are only able to start training when they are nine years old
6.  Students traditionally are only able to grade every three months and if they miss it they have to wait another three months!

Brisbane Taekwondo & Hapkido Academy

1.  We have our own Full time Facility and have been full time now for 12 years
2.  Our facility is fully matted with World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) recognised mats
3.  We completely separate Adults and children and even divide children by belt level and age to maximise the learning process
4.  Mr & Mrs O'Flaherty are both qualified school teachers and have many years of teaching experience between them.
5.  Our students can start training in a specialised Little Legends program from the age of four.
6.  Our students are able to grade on a weekly basis as soon as they are competent with their grading work
7.  Our students undergo very intense training before becoming an accredited instructor.
8.  Our Instructors follow a very organised and planned program with regard to teaching to ensure every aspect of our Martial Art is covered
