Academy Weekly Fly Around
Thursday 6 March 2008
Welcome to another busy week at the club.

Did everyone take advantage of the extra day last Friday- a whole 24 hours extra to catch up on all of the jobs we never seem to be able to get done!!!

The Senior First Aid course has come and gone, congratulations to those members who participated. It was a very enjoyable and rewarding day with lots of practical experiences.

A huge thank you to our members who have supported the muffin drive, we have sold more this year than ever before. Actually we sold 322 dozen muffins to be exact.
Well done!!

Club Competition this Sunday, starting at 8.00am sharp.  If you have forgotten to put in your entry form, we may still be able to fit you in, check at reception.

I would like to introduce you this week to the first of our five core values that our staff decided on last year.  These are the values that our team decided best represented us and what we believed in.

Have a great week!

Our Core Values
by Fiona O'Flaherty
Our 5 Core Values

The first of our Core Values is

1.  Martial Arts is a life Journey.

Here at Brisbane Taekwondo and Hapkido Academy we believe that Martial Arts is something that can be done at any age or any stage of your life. Our aim at Brisbane Taekwondo and Hapkido Acadmey is to make it part of your life and it becomes something you do. There is no completion date.  It is a continual learning process teaching confidence, discipline, persistence, fitness, self defence, balance just to name a few.

A great example of this is one of our Teenage Black belts who was recently graded to probationary 2nd Dan.  He started traning with us when he was five years old and is now turning 16 this year!! He has a younger brother who trains with us as well and you will usually see his Mum working out on the weights while the boys do their classes.

We love being part of your life!

Students participating will require boxing gloves of some sort to use when boxing on bags.

by Damien O'Flaherty
Club Competition 8.00am-1.00pm

Our first competition for the year is on Sunday March 9th.

Please ensure that you bring your safety equipment as you will not be allowed to  participate without arm, shin and mouthguard.

The draw for the day will be on the club website by Saturday if you would like to have a look.

We have personally invited three different clubs from Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane South.  They are very clear on the reasons and focus of our Competition and what we are trying to achieve.

ryanandtayaIf you would like to assist with organisation on the day please leave your name at reception, we would really appreciate it.

Students will be required to have basic safety equipment of a mouth guard and arm and shin guards.  These can be purchased at reception.

Remember to pick them up! Wednesday 12th March
Every year our club runs a few fundraising activities.  We use the funds raised from these events to assist with costs involved in sending coaches to competitions and to pay for specialist seminars at our club.

We have sold a record 322 dozen this time which an awesome effort.  An extra big thank you to some students who managed to sell over 20 dozen all on their own.

Remember the muffins will be delivered to the club on Wednesday 12th March.  They will be available for pick up after 2.00pm.
New Zealand Open -28th -30th March

Tournament Squad attending New Zealand Open
Approximately twenty of our more experienced tournament players and some parents will be attending the New Zealand Open at the end of March.   The  squad is made up of both Juniors and  Seniors and will be the first international event for many of them.

girlstechnicalcompThis is a development opportunity for our players enabling them to experience a taste of international competition without the additional language or food issues that are associated with overseas travel.

Safety Reminder- Students and Families
by Fiona O'Flaherty
Compulsory- Mouthguards and Water Bottle

A reminder to all parents that it is compulsory for all Junior, Teenage and Adult students to have a mouthguard to be worn during sparring.  It is probable that students will be asked to sit out of sparring if they don't have a mouthguard.

Water Bottles are also compulsory for ALL students.  It is an essential habit that students learn to drink water whilst exercising.  The cups in the kitchen are only there for Parents and members wanting to drink tea and coffee, as we are not able to wash up after everyone that uses them for drinking water during classes!!

If possible we ask parents to keep noise to a minimum in the foyer area.  There have been a number of occassions lately where it has been difficult to teach and distracting for the students because of the noise coming from the waiting area.  Your cooperation with this would be appreciated.  We really do want the best possible learning environment for the students.
