Academy Weekly Fly Around
Friday 7 December 2007
Greetings!
There is no doubt the year is going just so fast as we see the Christmas tree lights on in houses as we drive home in the evening.  The school holidays are already here for many as year 12 and year 10 students are on holidays.  Already there are families who have gone away to start their well earned Christmas vacation break.

Of course there are many people still working harder than ever as we either prepare to do last minute things to get away for vacation or move into top gear as we get busier at work with people trying to get everything done before Christmas.

So whatever position you are in just remember to take time out for yoruself and your family - take that two minute breather every now and then - a deep breath - and remember that you going absolutely flat out won't really get that much more done.

Oceania Regional Selections for Beijing Olympics
by Damien O'Flaherty
Australia Qualifies 4 Athletes
Pita1On the weekend I went to Noumea New Caledonia to coach one of our members at the 1st Oceania regional selections for the Beijing Olympics.  Pita Taufatofua represents Tonga and trains at our Academy for his elite athlete development.  Pita scored a silver medal at the competition losing the final with an injury to his foot  at the end of the first round.  We are still waiting on results and wish Pita well in his recovery.

Australia was successful in qualifying the moximum numbers of athletes for one country being the strongest nation at the competition in the Oceania region, with New Zealand ranking second.

Australia qualified at the Oceania tournament in the divisions of Amy Ash, Ryan Carneli and Tina Morgan.  Burak Hassan had alrady qualified in an earlier international qualification tournament in the year at Manchester.

Our Academy gained a commitment from the New Zealand and Papua New Guinea teams to participate in an exchange trianing camp with our Academy in 2008 so the visit to Noumea, whilst a busy schedule, was well worth it.  Go Pita!

Black Belt Grading Sat 8 Dec 8.30am
by Damien O'Flaherty
Master Lee 9th Dan Hapkido and Taekwondo visits
MasterLee2It's been a little while since Master Lee has been to Brisbane to assess our black belts, so the coming grading is an extra special event for all concerned.  We pregraded about 12 black belts sitting a range of black belt grades from Cho Dan Bo to 3rd Dan across both Taekwondo and Hapkido.

Please come and enjoy the excellence of our black belts who have taken on the personal challenge of striving for their own excellence.  We are so proud of them for persisting to attain a level of mastery we strive for in the martial arts.  The timber board breaking will be a spectacular feature of the grading so feel free to pop down and enjoy the grading starting at 8.30am.

by Deb Houston
Join Us for a Fun Parade
AllSaintsDemoLauraOnce again our Academy is performing as part of the Pine Rivers Shire Christmas Parade on Saturday 8 December.  This is on the same day as our Awards Night however we think we can manage two events on the one day well.  Notices will be handed out this week in class.

Start time is 5pm so participating members need to meet at 4.30pm at the marshaling yard located in Learmonth Street opposite Westfield Strathpine.

There are 8000 spectators expected.  If you are interested please leave you name at Reception.  All enquiries about the parade please call our coordinator Debbie Houston on 0433 901 409.   We will be doing informal demonstrations on the parade and it is so much fun.  We really need members to participate.

Last Grading and Christmas Vacation Dates
by Damien O'Flaherty
Vacation Opening Dates
FlyKickEskTuesday 11 December will be the last designated Tuesday evening grading at Strathpine with Ipswich, West Brisbane, Esk and Coominya having their last grading for the year in the week of 3 to 7 December.

Most members would be aware that colour belt gradings are held every Tuesday evening from 5.15pm to 6.15pm.  Members book into their grading the week before once they have attained all their pre grading coloured stripes and the instructor hands out the grading envelope.

Strathpine gradings will resume in the new year in the first week back while branches run their gradings according to their local schedules.

The Academy Calendar on the website details Christmas Vacation closing and opening dates for the new year.  Please do to the website and click on the Academy Calendar to get the latest update on dates.
