In the meantime...here is a You Tube link taken from the stands. Note the other links to the right when you play this one!

Rounders Car Wash October 15 at Bringe!

According to a recent internet article, drivers of "clean" cars are 41% more likely to prosper and have "good Karma" than drivers of dirty ones.

With that in mind...Lynn Weigand has offered the parking lot of car washBringe Music on Saturday, October 15 from 10am to 2pm (3pm if we have a line!), to wash cars, trucks, boats, RV's, maybe even pets, towards Rounders funding.

Volunteers wanted!

Contact Barbara Keighley at 727-420-5717 if you'd like to help. If you can't help...bring your vehicle for the same precision in car washing as your Rounders produce marching on the street.

A clean car is a "happy" car!

Remember Savannah!

A Letter From Your Board...

Why do Your Rounders Fundraise?

Ok, we've each done it since childhood, and likely every school year for our kids. Two dollar candy bar sales for that $.50 piece of chocolate, car washes in 100 degree heat, benefit concerts, and bake sales. Chipping away at the band or soccer team budget a couple of dollars at a time. Maybe funds for the cheerleader trip or to defray the church camp weekend costs. Fundraising is as American as Friday night football and as Canadian as Hockey night (still thinking Calgary...!).

But why do your Rounders fundraise you may ask??

Well, since you asked, did you know that the average Rounders annual budget, excluding trips, runs over $20K per year?fundraise  Rounders costs include, but isn't limited to, insurance, facility rentals (can you say "Coliseum"?), musical arrangements, supplies, refreshments, Gulfport Casino rental, instrument purchase, repair, and maintenance, postage, internet hosting, E-Mail software, and forms/music printing among various other business operating costs!

In a typical 300 participating-member year this comes to $67 per person!  Much of this is offset by the generosity of our members (those that donate at registration) as well as by a few outside donors, but significant shortfall needs reconciliation by Rounders fundraising efforts which require member volunteer time, participation, and financial support.

A big thank you to all of you who have done "your part" in our fundraisers, by volunteering or participating financially toward sustaining this wonderful organization. Your Rounders need your generosity of time and/or funds to keep the organization healthy. And, we need more of you to follow suit!

While participating why not bring a friend or two to our events! They like Chili too! You'll be hearing about many FUNdraising opportunities soon.

We welcome your participation (and money), your friends participation (and money), as well as your ideas toward raising additional funds for the Rounders. Thanks in advance for your help come registration time (Reg fees) and at our many upcoming events.

Bill's Island Singers
It's almost Holiday time...and Bill has a musical offer just for you!

For the past few years Tierre Verde's Island Chapel has presented Holiday Performances that have warmed many hearts. This year's "Joy, Joy, Joy" featuring the "Island Singers" and the "Second Winds" stands to be the best one yet! Pastor (and Rounder) Mike Wetzel is certain of it!

The Island Singers is made up of, well, singers from throughout Pinellas County Churches (last year 17 of them); plus "good island singersvoices" from the community at large. We are asking all Rounders who have ever sung in a school or church choir...or who even sing well in the shower (sorry, little water at rehearsal) to join us this year for "Joy, Joy, Joy."

The two performances will be on December 19th at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Palladium in downtown St. Pete.

We are looking to stage well over 100-voices...and need your membership toward accomplishing that goal. Our own Bill Findeison will conduct!

Want to join us? Call the chapel office at 727-866-7362 anytime Monday through Thursday.  Register with the secretary and reserve your music and CD.

Here's a Video Look at part of last year's performance with the Second Winds:

Island Singers 2010

Music books and voice-part CD's will be available for pickup next week at the Island Chapel on Tierre Verde (telephone above) We provide these early so you have time to learn your part by seeing the music and hearing the dominant voice part.  It is expected that you come to the first practice with a reasonable understanding of your part.  This saves lots of rehearsal time.

The cost for the music book and CD is $10.00 and due at the time you pick up your music.  Checks are payable to the Island Chapel.

The rehearsal dates are as follows:  November 1st, (Tuesday), and every Tuesday thereafter leading up to the performance on December 19th.  Practice starts promptly at 7:00 p.m. and is over at 9:00 p.m.

The Second Winds are also performing again this year and will join you for three selections, "Lead On, O King Eternal", an audience sing-a-long, and finish with "The Hallelujah Chorus".

Rounders...we want to "hear" your presence. Come sing along!

Wanted: Your musician friends!

AND THE BEAT GOES ON.....the RECRUITING BEAT, that is!!!

Actually, recruiting never stops.  While we were totally immersed in our regular season, followed by our simply INCREDIBLE trip to Calgary and all that that entailed, Rounders folk like you and me continued to help us recruit new members, and we'd be remiss we failed to recognize them for their efforts!

Special thanks go out to LINDA BUTTS who made a Rounders' presentation back in May to a Ladies' auxiliary group in the Bradenton/Sarasota area.  Rounders posters were prominently displayed at the 'show and tell', and we're certain that many seeds of excitement were planted!

Later on in June, SHELLY ANDERSON, ALICEN BARRETT, and BILL FINDEISON called on Jefrey L. Traster, Chair of therecruit Department of Music at the University of Tampa.  They discussed several topics, such as the UT Band Camp, and they also made it a point to pitch the Rounders, and to 'flash' our latest "GOT BAND?" poster!  They left extra copies for placement in their several locations on the campus.  (By the way, if you want posters, we got 'em!!).

Ok...so now...(and you just knew this was coming).... what are YOU doing to sign up new members?  Our Holiday gathering will be upon us before you know it, and the 2012 will shortly follow!  ACT NOW!!!  We all know that the best referrals come from YOU, the current members, and we always need new musicians, twirlers, and non twirling auxiliary!

Oh, and if you have already been recruiting, be sure to tell us what it is you've done, so we can share it with everyone.  Also, if you have any ideas on what else we can do (or if you want to help us), please let us know.

New Rounders don't just magically appear..... we have to wave our own flag and get folks EXCITED and off their couches!!!  That's where you come in. If just 50 of you brought a friend...just think of what that would mean to OUR band!

A recruiting story:

Rounders Linda and Lee Butts have been communicating with multiple college alumni bands around the country. This year they are participating in a home-and-home leadership exchange with Ohio State University in Columbus.  Linda and Lee went to their alumni reunion in September and met with their leadership and experienced their alumni reunion.  Representatives of their Alumni Band are coming to Athens to see the UGA alumni band at Homecoming in November. Many of these folks will end up in Florida one day (didn't we all come from somewhere else?) and now have been exposed to the Rounders organization!

In addition Linda was able to arrange an email to be sent to the approx. 600 OSU alumni that live in Florida and added a recruiting page on the web site just for them - www.secondtimearounders.org/osu.asp .

What is YOUR Rounders recruiting story??
