 Monday, June 20 2011

Greetings!

Tuesday's rehearsal at Admiral Farragut will be our last before we see each other in Calgary. It is important that we get "Full Attendance" as we run through the drill...and work on the bill zoommusic.

Upon arriving, please line up by 7:00 PM on the field in the arc at the beginning of the show...once through without stopping - it's showtime.  Don't be late!!

A reminder to wear WHITE SHIRTS to rehearsal as we will run through the show for family, friends, and your non-participating Rounders that might gather around 8:15 PM (+/-).

We will send these reminders again as well as post on the website but:

1) On Calgary arrival day (July 7th). we will be rehearsing and setting the block at the hotel parking lot at 6:30 PM. A Rounders welcome reception will follow!

2) On Monday, July 11th, also at the hotel parking lot between 7:00-9:00 PM we'll be running through the entirecalgary flag field show. Attendance, please team, is mandatory. After three weeks off from the show, it is critical we all are there ready to dust the rust off.

3) Uniform:  There will not be any allowances for faded color hats or pants.  AS in high school, we WILL have an inspection prior to each uniformed performance:  Blue pants, "good" blue hat, black belt, white shoes with no markings.  If it is cold (and it might be) and you want to wear a long-sleeved white shirt under your band shirt, make sure it is the same white color as your Rounders shirt.   After all our hard work and Calgary expense, as a team we simply can't let anything slide when it comes to "looking good" on the street, and on the field. WE WILL allow Calgary pins on the left collar and blue Rounder pins on the right collar ONLY...nothing else visible on your uniform, please!

4)  Clean your instruments - especially the brass players! Shine them bright!

And of course, my favorite:

5)  "Don't Forget Your Hat!!"

See you Tuesday!

Things to Ponder...

Miscellaney...

1)  If you have not picked up your travel sheets at the Calgary Kickoff Party or last rehearsal, you can pick them up Tuesday night at the card table (if there) or in the bleachers!

2)  Calgary T-shirts and Pins, Official Rounders Pins, hats and fanny packs will be on sale at the blue van before and after rehearsal on Tuesday. This is the LAST NIGHT to pick up your pre-ordered items. There are about a dozen "extra' Calgary shirts and a few extra uniform shirts unspoken for!

3)  Tuesday is Instrument and Equipment Shipping Night! shipRemember to have your instruments ready to "hand over" at the end of rehearsal...including your Rounders shipping form. Full detail available on the Rounders web...or in the Newsletter Achives!

4)  Calgary weather in July is typically in the 70s during the day and 50s at night, but gets much colder when it is windy and rainy, so pack accordingly!

5)  Call your credit card company and alert them that you will be traveling to Canada so they don't reject charges while you are there (It happens). Also, Check coverage with yourCredit Card health insurance company and ask them to make recommendations if necessary.

6)  Check your cell phone plans.  Calls and texts may be very expensive! Tell your carrier you will be in Canada for a week and see what they recommend!

7)  You may want to exchange some currency before you travel. ATM's in Canada are often a good choice but is not a universal choice depending on your bank card type. Pick up some "Loonies"!

8) Your Rounders are looking for a couple more Calgary Hospitality Suite sponsors at $100.00 each.  Interested members please see or contact Barbara Keighley. A special thank you to our sponsors so far: Angie Brown,
Melissa Mince and Bruce Hall.

It's Not Too Late to Get In Shape!

Hey gang,

A reminder that you'll definitely feel a difference because of the altitude in Calgary! As an aerobics instructor, and Barbihiker/skier, the best thing for conditioning for the altitude is to walk, walk, and walk. If you can work into running, use the elliptical or bike that is great too!! Don't know how many of you are members of a gym or have equipment at home. As you build your aerobic capacity, you can add hand weights and pump those arms as you walk. With the elliptical, bike or other machines, use the hill program.

Your goal is to increase your endurance. You can tell by talking out loud and see if you are breathless or can talk with ease. If you can talk easily, step it up. The minimum time is 15 minutes 3 days a week. Anything more is great and will get you in better shape!

Several days before we take off, be sure your body is fully hydrated! Being hydrated will help with the adaption to the altitude. Continue to drink water on the plane and drink water when you arrive. Be careful drinking alcohol the first day or two. It will affect you quicker and also is a dehydrator. If you do drink alcohol, be sure to follow it with water.

If you have any questions or need ideas for a workout, please let me know. I probably sound like a den mom, but as many times as I have been to Colorado to visit my brother, this does help!!

Here's to Calgary!!!
