Three of the world's leading chemical companies – BASF, Cargill and Novozymes – are developing a renewable feedstock for acrylic acid – a common ingredient in products such as diapers and paints. Presently, acrylic acid is produced by the oxidation of propylene derived from the refining of crude oil.

Goodyear Says Soybean Oil Makes Better Tires
Using soybean oil to make tires could increase tread life by 10 percent and replace seven million gallons of petroleum-based oil each year, according to researchers at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Prototype tires will be tested at Goodyear's Proving Grounds in San Angelo, Texas in the coming months.
