  FLOS Unveils Biodegradable Lamp
Italian lighting brand FLOS is now offering a version of one of its trademark lamp designs made from 100 percent naturally water-biodegradable bioplastic. FLOS teamed with another Italian company, bio-on, which developed the bioplastic over the last five years. The so-called PHA biopolymer is made from the waste materials of sugar beet and cane production, so it has zero impact on food resources. It also requires no organic solvents for production and is completely biodegradable in soil and water.

  IBM, Honda, PG&E Pilot EV-to-Grid Communication
The project aims to demonstrate an electric vehicle's ability to receive and respond to charge instructions based on the states of the power grid and the vehicle's battery. With visibility into charging patterns, energy providers will have the ability to more effectively manage charging during peak hours and create consumer-friendly programs to encourage electric vehicle adoption, the companies said.

  New Scotch Masking Tapes Green Paint Jobs
3M introduced a more eco-friendly version of one of its core products: Scotch masking tape. The new Scotch Greener Masking Tapes are made with 56 percent renewable resources, including paper backing made with 30 percent post consumer recycled content and adhesive made with natural, regenerating latex harvested from rubber trees.

Ford, Dow Researching Carbon Fiber for Lighter Vehicles
Ford aims to cut the weight of new cars and trucks by up to 750 pounds by the end of the decade in an effort to improve fuel efficiency. To help reach the goal, the automaker has partnerer with Dow Automotive Systems, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, to research the use of lightweight carbon fiber composites in high-volume vehicles.
