  Walmart Creates New Label for Healthier Food Choices
Walmart, the nation’s largest food retailer, introduced a new front-of-the-pack label this week to indicate which of its food products are healthier for consumers. The “Great For You” label will initially appear on select Walmart Great Value and Marketside items, as well as on fresh and packaged fruits and vegetables at all U.S. stores this spring.

  Study Shows Carbon Disclosures Boost Stock Prices
Companies that disclose information about their greenhouse gas emissions and carbon reduction strategies see their stock values rise, according to a new University of California Davis study. Graduate School of Management Professor Paul Griffin and his co-author, Yuan Sun of UC Berkeley, tracked stock prices of firms around the time these companies voluntarily issued press releases disclosing carbon emission information. In the days after the press releases were issued, the companies saw their stock prices increase, Griffin and Sun found.

  Hershey Agrees to Source Certified Cocoa For the First Time
The Hershey Company announced this week it will make its first commitment to sourcing independently certified cocoa for one of its product lines by the end of 2012. The announcement was made days before advocacy group International Labor Rights Forum was scheduled to run a Super Bowl ad highlighting Hershey’s alleged use of child labor, and it follows a multi-year campaign that generated over 100,000 letters to Hershey asking the company to improve its cocoa sourcing practices.

  Policy Leadership Puts Google at the Top of Greenpeace IT Rankings
Google’s leadership on climate issues moved the search engine giant to the top of Greenpeace’s latest information technology (IT) company rankings, just ahead of Cisco and Ericsson. The fifth edition of the Cool IT Leaderboard ranks 21 IT companies on their clean energy leadership potential, willingness to embrace clean energy solutions and potential to influence energy decisions. Google topped the table for its clear support of stronger US clean energy policy and the strengthening of the EU’s current 20% greenhouse gas target of 30% by 2020.
