Help us Honor Bill Virchis! The friends and colleagues of William Virchis ask for your support in writing a letter of nomination for the naming of the new performing arts facility at Chula Vista High School in honor of William A. Virchis. Attached is a template of a letter based on the naming criteria outlined by the committee. If you wish, you can sign the letter as it is or use it as a guideline in writing your own letter of nomination. Attached you will also find a brief biography and article that will assist you in the breath of experience and accomplishments of Mr. Virchis. We are so proud to have this opportunity to name this new facility after a man who has been such an integral part of the Chula Vista community. Mr. Virchis is known nationally and internationally as an educational leader, artist, columnist and critic, actor, director, community activist, wrestling coach and most importantly - the father of two incredible sons, Jason and Adam, and a beautiful granddaughter, True Grace Virchis. We must ask that you please be prompt in your response, as the letter of nomination need to be received by October 19, 2010. El Pueblo Perdido
On November 6th at the Old Town Cultural and Historical Program Campus, we will hold a conference with the theme, "El Pueblo Perdido: The Lost Heritage of Early " focusing on 1769-1848. It brings together local historians, archeologists, and park rangers who will regale a fascinating history of early San Diego. New Play-Detained in The Desert
Detained in the Desert parrallels Sandi Sanchez (a 2nd generation Latina) and Lou Becker (a Hate Talk radio host), two people on opposite sides of the immigration debate. Sandi is arrested as an "illegal" by an Arizona policeman after refusing to show her identification in protest. Lou personally experiences the fallout of his actions when he is kidnapped by three masked figures. Through a series of deceptions and mishaps, Sandi and Lou's paths converge in the Sonoran Desert where they come to understand the severity of the plight of undocumented immigrants. Metro Region Community Meet & Greet
The Metro Region Career Centers, operated by JobWorks, Inc. is pleased to host the first ever meet and greet on Thursday, October 14, 2010. This will be the first in a series of community gatherings that convenes leaders from business, education and workforce development to identify emerging markets, analyze innovative industries, and create solutions for an ideal workforce in the Metro Region. The event starts with a networking continental breakfast and a presentation by Chuck Flacks, Director of Research/Policy at the San Diego Workforce Partnership. He will begin our discussion regarding workforce and economic issues as they apply to the San Diego Economy. An interactive panel of local employers will follow as we begin having a more detailed discussion about how the impact is being felt in our local economy. Panelist will share with attendees their perspectives and as a community we will share the available resources and ideas on how to strengthen our community as a whole.
